Well I can identify the problem or problems.
1. the Me generation took parents out of the traditional role of loving, nuturing, teaching, activity providing, caregiver.
2. Schools have been so 'dumbed down' that the vast majority of young folks of all ages are BORED to death and have no outlet
3. the government's relinquished its decency standards for TV and movies under lobby preaseure and greed for the almighty dollar.
4. the message kids have been receiveing is that they are, at best a necessary inconvenience until the grow up and become part of the anonomous horde of clock punchers.
now some (hopefull answers)
1. I hate to HAVE to say it, but we need to get away from the super-materialistic life that we are credit-carding ourselves into oblivion with! The one parent household is virtually nonexistant today and it is leaving kids to raise themselves and they just cannot do it!
2. Parenting education about love and caring for the kids (including limits and boundries for kids lives and actions!)
3. parents need to be told that their lives are theirs before kids and after the kids grow and leave, but in the mean time, they MUST live, by example and teaching, for their kids!
If you notice I am putting the responsability on parents, mostly, and NOTon the kids!
4. Schools need to teach more and allow children to progress at their own rate! This type of program has a 100% success rate. It ALWAYS bring out the best when possible (I say that because some kids have such turbulent lives that nothing helps, sadly).
5. no more quotas for passing students! If a student fails, then he/she fails!
HOW IS IT THAT IN TIMES PAST, ALL OF THE GREAT LEADERS AND MEN WE NOW HOLD AS IMPORTANT WERE: SCIENTISTS, AUTHORS, POLITICIANS, BUSINESSMEN, DOCTORS ALL ROLLED INTO ONE MAN? have we sunk so low that we no longer demand or even expect our youth to accomplish anything more than that they be good at one thing?
6. Stop TEACHING self esteem! That comes from inside and not outside! a sense of accomplishment is earned and it brings GREAT pride with it and confidence. Telling a kid how good he is and never arming him for the life ahead will surely lead to disaster, and where does that disaster occur? out in the REAL world when he fails and implodes because he is emotionally handicapped by the system that produced him!
7. EVERYONE MUST ADMIT THAT NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME!
We need well trained restaurant managers, mechanics, doctors carpenters, and lawn care specialists (I love that title).
You want your child to have pride, show them the value in ALL work, no matter if it is menial or highly prized!
Take time to have REAL discussions with your kids, find out what they fear, and care about and WHY!
Make them feel safe to have their own opinions, but guide them. It is not wrong to argue positions, but keep personality clashes to a minumum so they still know that you disagree with the point of view, not that they fell unwanted for their views!
well there is probably more, but my fingers are tired from typing!

A healthy country, a constitutional government and better choice!

Change the nation into what?
The power in this country is concentrated at the top level. I think most people know that and that's why there is such general apathy when it comes to political activism. They argue over meaningless "issues" because they're powerless to change or influence the real pressing ones. Any attempts at radical change are dealt with swiftly to maintain the status quo.
I see the population in general as being "comfortably numb". In such an environment, nobody has an incentive to change. People live in hope of achieving wealth (which is nonsense for the most part) and the few who actually make it are paraded as proud examples that the american dream is a reality, so long as you only work hard and play by the rules.
This country has no sense of internal community. People come together to fight an external enemy, but they're divided on the inside, which leaves everyone to go it alone. We prize individualism, remember... and so long as everyone is out for themselves, you'll never get major change.

How about this,
Obviously people with money can get away with crimes, why not reform our legal system to equally punish offenders no matter their social status. An example would be DMX the rapper. He stole a car at an airport, crashed it through a security gate and tried to impersonate an FBI agent. A middle class citizen would be rotting in prison for all of that. Our justice system has to punish equally and throughly those who break the law, no matter their social status. Another process would be to speed up the death penalty. In these times it is far more difficult for a person to cover up his crime. If without a doubt, and all evidence points to the person commiting the crime, if the death penalty is the veredict, then speed up the process instead of holding em in prison and wasting federal funds. Put that money into the education of our kids, they are the future right. Another think that i would like to see would be real religious freedom, what i mean by this is, no religion should have any say in our government. Our laws should not have to be dependant on religious acceptance. No plitical party should be based on a religion or religious views since there are so many religions in the country. I got many more, i'll post my page later so you can view my blogs.

Well, I was looking forward the these answers, but as usual, most of the boneheads responded with dumb remarks. There were a couple of good ones. The media production bit was a good idea. Also, I have to agree that having the new generation serve in the military (mandatory) isn't such a bad idea either. The thing with that is, they would need to be told early on that it was expected of them.
Let me know if you solve this huge problem. I would love to get behind and support something that would really work.
God Bless America!

If it is a change back to Constitutional basics, like freedom of religious expression, the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, a man's home is his castle...
I suggest using your resources to sponsor Media Production students who are of a mindset that you favor. They will be the most influential people when it comes to changing national attitudes, especially of other youth. Find friends who can mentor them in business management, media production, who can help them produce high quality works.
Leftists have known this for decades. They have seized one nation after another through youth media movements that generated momentum to overthrow the established systems, then promptly shut down freedom of media production to prevent the same techniques from being used against them.
Americans, however, largely have not grasped the importance of helping pro-American youth get into good media careers and to produce works that appeal to their peers as well as promote founding American principles.

How about asking a "real thought out" question?
Change the nation into what? Something different, I'll assume. Change is always better, allegedly. But different in what way? More libertarian? More socialistic? More fascistic?

They need figureheads that they feel they can relate to and talk with. I think the problem as of late is that our leaders seem so distanced from what your common man is. In this I think I have some suggestions but theyre far too complex and subtle to go into here.
