I have a family of four, and thats why its a lil hard on us to go and buy freash veggies and fruit. They really are not that cheap when you are buying for everyone.

I know this from personal experience. My mother and I lived together for a year last year and I lost 12lbs, she lost 35lbs. We had a very tight budget, but here's what we did:
Breakfast: High Protein, every other day ( like 2 eggs, 2 strips of turkey bacon, and small portion of fat-free cottage cheese) 1 serving of Oatmeal sweetened with splenda or honey, in between those days.
Lunch: Canned Salmon Sandwiches (very cheap) with wheat bread lite mayo. Or Salads with your favorite toppings. (Omega 3 fatty acids are found in fish such as salmon, this is great for getting rid of the pooch.)
Dinner: Has to be something lite. Like a bowl of Cheerios or veggies
*The trick was always having half a grapefruit with each meal.
Limiting snacks to whole grain cereal, fruits or nuts. 8 glasses of water, no sodas.

I can guarantee that this works. I lost 30 lbs. in 5 weeks using a diet which I came up with. The key is to cut fat and carbs. I wouldn't eat anything with more than 5 grams of fat, or 8 grams of carbs. I would supplement my nutrition by taking a multivitamin to ensure that I wasn't malnourished. A few items that were ok were rice cakes. They have been improved quite a bit in the last few years. Pork rinds make an excellent alternative to chips. They are 0 carb, 5 grams of fat per serving. Crystal Light has great flavor without the dreaded "diet" taste. Ground turkey once in a while tastes great as a healthier alternative to ground beef. Salad is awesome. If you find 2-3 different types of salad that you like, you can eat them in rotation. My favorite is chicken caesar with fat free caesar dressing. I also lead a similar lifestyle as you do. I work all day on my feet and am tired when I get home. I never did any additional exercise. I still lost all that weight and never felt hungary. If you would like to hear more, please feel free to email me. cyberiian1@yahoo.com P.S. Fresh fruit isn't always good for dieters. Some fruit is very high in natural sugars and therefore carbs. Given of course that it is way better for you than processed sugar. Good luck.

I have been doing W.W. and it has been working well for me. 35 pounds in 16 weeks. Basically, the concept there is to take in 6 eight ounce glasses of water a day. Three have to be water the other can be tea, coffee, diet soda, or like Crystal light lemonade. 5 portions of fruit or veggies a day and for most people 2 portions of milk. Limiting your intake is a key as well. Plus, spreading your food out through out the day. Watching calories, fat, and dietary fiber. The lower the cals and fat and the higher the fiber the better. It is very hard to diet on a small budget but you can figure out a way.

The best and quickest way to lose weight is to watch your carbohydrate intake. Carbohydrates store fat and make you gain weight! I was on a low carb/no carb diet a couple years ago and lost 17 lbs doing it. You do not eat more than 65 carbs a day drink lots of water stay away from sodas unless they are diet. Also watch your fat intake. I would suggest going to a book store and picking up a Carb Counting Book that shows you how much carbs are in what foods. Eat foods that are low in carbs or have no carbs such as meat, cheese, certain fruits and veggies.....You can also buy low carb candies and drinks.

You've got to be kidding.... right? Veggies are cheap! Fruit is only a little more. What on earth are you eating that could possibly cost less than those? Ol Roy from Walmart? Geez. Here... go to http://www.chetday.com and follow his 21 day diet and marvel at what happens. All you have to do is keep your calorie intake less than 1600 to 1800, depending on your size. It's simple addition and subtraction. You don't even have to exercise even though it will enhance the diet.

My income is about as low as it gets before broke. Canned fruits and vegies are cheap and just as good...as long as the fruit is in light syrup or it's own juices. Eat very lean meats and don't eat out. Drink lots of water. And as far as exercise....I know you're tired but if you REALLY want to lose...you'll just have to do it. Walking is the easiest and best exercise there is. Try convincing your family to walk with you...make it fun. Push the kids in the stroller (if their little). Just make it a family thing...walking is good for everyone whether their trying to lose weight or not.

You are right .....it is hard to lose weight on a small budget. What you must do now is control your eating habits. The best way to do that is to write down every single thing that enters your mouth. Including liquids. Also write down the time you ate or drank it and how you were feeling at that moment. Happy, sad, tired, just had sex, etc. You may notice a pattern and then know where your weakness lies. Good luck and God Bless.

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. throw in a lot of fiber-
either fiber cereal, (boring) or fiber supplements (easy, but potentially expensive.)
a lot of water
(and you can get fruit frozen)

try if you possibly can to wake up a little earlier each day, maybe even just ten minutes- and try to get a few exercises in.
little things add up, so do as many little things as you can.
-crunches in the morning? push-ups at lunch?
and importantly, simply:
-AVOID FAST FOOD,LATTES,CAPPUCCINOS
