Its not the Heely's themselves that are dangerous..its the kid who wears them and thinks he can control them and himself. You have to be pretty sure your child can skate and has the balance to control them, before setting him lose with a pair on. I read about the boy who got hit by a car while wearing them, thats a tragic accident...but a car accident at that. The Heely's didn't cause him to die..the fact that he didn't see the car coming and he attempted to cross the street is what caused him to die.
So anyway...as with anything, a dirtbike, a scooter..whatever. Skill is the bottom line. If your child does not have the skills them don't get them for them.

They can be. If the user learns how to use them properly, they aren't as dangerous. Yet, people can still get hurt secondary such as someone can fall in the middle of a street and be hit by a car. When i tried them on, i fell right away because i didn't remember that they had wheels. I also have a friend who almost broke her elbow trying to learn how to use them.

Only if you attempt to"wheely" with the shoes side by side. (go stand on a small round steel pipe and see for yourself). But heck, I know kids that have had broken bones and bruises just from taking 1 step...BAREFOOT! I have seen women "fall off there high heels too! Nothing is safe LOL

A friend of mine told me a story about her best friend losing her son to heelies. You will never catch me buying a pair for my children. NEVER! I think someone posted the link to the story above.

yes it is dangerous, but dont let one injury stop u from heelys. I mean last year, i fell and scraped my arm, knee, elbow, and head. but right after that, i went back to heelys. you can fall by doing tricks or tripping over something.

I saw a young boy in our mall do a header when he hit a paper cup in the food court! Does that make them dangerous? Probably as dangerous as motorcycle riding. Bob G.
