Me & my husband have changed the way we speak in front of him but he continues to cuss. I have tried to ignore it because everyone says to but that isn't working. Do I punish with time out, pop him in the mouth or what??? Any suggestions from anyone who has gone thru this before will be appreciated.

First of all, who started him cussing? If you or your husband did, then sit down with him and tell him that it is your fault that he learned to cuss and tell him that you did not think much about it until you heard him cuss and he doesn't fit the cussing type and that he seems more polite than you and your husband and that it would be better for him not to cuss. Tell him to try not to make this a way of life, that he looks too cool for that. I hope this works!

My 7 yr old has been a serious back-talker and when she'd get a little too mouthy I'd put a drop of liquid hand soap on my finger and wipe it on the tip of her tongue. She had to stand there for 1 minute before she was allowed to rinse and spit. It curbs the behavior almost instantly and it's not going to kill them. I'd never stick a bar of soap in a child's mouth. That's just overkill.

The way I did it was the same way I was raised which is washing the mouth out with soap each time. They catch on real fast.

soap in the mouth. it's a classic and does work. or make them pay for each cuss word they say. 10 cents for sh*t, a dollar for the f-bomb, stuff like that. both really work.

do not use soap! it hurts your mouth and some soaps can burn your tongue. use hot sauce or some liquid he hates. if this doesn't work, tell him that he will have to pay. and once he gets broke, go into the negatives. so when he receives money, he doesn't get it.

There are lots of places where cussing are not aloud. Either he will be told to leave or get in trouble.

Depending on his age try putting soap in his mouth or if he's old enough Tabasco sauce.

Tell him to go to his room and curse all he wants. When he's done he can come out and join the rest of the family for ice cream or something.

The soap thing didn't work with my son he learned to blow bubbles back at me so I decided to use vinegar. It's less cruel then hot sauce.
