I used to get my butt beat if I was ever disrespectful. So I grew up knowing how to be respectful.

Not very many anymore. Self centered society tends to lessen the values of all, including self respect...Anything goes these days and it's a shame.....

I dont think respect and age are necessarily related. I have always respected people and their property and my parents were never around when I was young. It just varies from person to person. It is more of a personality and maturity thing. I know adults who are not respectful to anyone, and it probably has to do with maturity and arrogance. Yes, parents should teach their children to respect others and other people's property, but it also is a learning experience through life, not just what being told what to do and what not to do. If you think about the people you know, you probably know some very disrespectful adults who probably have been disrespectful most of their lives. Other people my age have the most respectful parents who try to train their kids to be respectful, yet the kids are not respectful. So maturity and personality probably have to do more with respect than age. I've raised my niece for 10 years, and i'd have to say most of her friends that I know about are respectful, except maybe 2 or 3.

Ooooohhh, I just love these questions. Again, someone is judging all parents from the few they know. My children are very respectful of other people and their property. They are polite, courteous, and pretty well behaved as well. In fact most of the children I know are the same way. Believe me, you know when another parent is lying to you about how well behaved your child is. Just remember though, children are children and do not always do as they are taught.

well alot of times the parents teach their child(ren) to respect people and their property, but sometimes they act as if they wasn't brought up the right way. then on the other hand, some parents don't teach their child(ren) to respect others. i have seen where some children get their way and their parents pretend as if it's fine. it just depend on the child. u can't always say their parents didn't teach them to respect others, because children may act a different way than in front of their parents.
