They lie at your feet because they want to be close to you (you know, they love you?). As for the farting, dogs don't distinguish farthing as something funny or bad, it's something natural, like breathing.
If the stench is bad, consider changing his diet, or going to a vet for antibiotics.
On a side note: If your dog is extremly gassy, I'd study up on "Bloat" and learn how to temporarily cure it (while rushing to the vet's office).

The fact that he's doing it at your feet may reflect his feelings toward you. Just joking. Many dog foods cause excess gas. Make sure you are feeding a high quality food. Avoid anything with corn, wheat, or soy. These are big gas producers. Enjoy.

i didn't know that a dog is able to fart>> but if i does maybe it jst looking for a shelter or hiding place by lie at u'r feet while it do something embaressinggg? sometimes animal hold on to their own manner u know..
