My dog drinks out of our pool all the time, and I was wondering if there would be any bad effects of that. I don't want opinions. I just want any information you can give me. Thanks!

Oh yeah, we have provided plenty of cold, clean water for our dog, but he still does to the pool.

Chlorine is pretty much like the bleach you have under your sink. Drinking it would give anyone explosive diarrhea. Diluted in the pool, it's probably not going to harm your dog. If he's been drinking it regularly with no ill effects, it doesn't seem likely the water would start harming him now.

Worse would be to cut down on the chlorine, trying to protect Rover, which would allow algae to grow in the pool. Drinking THIS water could make your dog sick.

I don't think it's good for the dog, try to limit the dog's access to the pool area, only allow him when he can be supervised.

A little bit won't hurt him, and I've seen my dogs drink from the pool when they're hot.

Here's a suggestion: Get a nice big bicket (metal one form pet stores, maybe 1 gallon, or a large shallow metal bowl) and fill it with cold water and ice cubes, see if the dog goes to that instead of the pool, and praise him when he drinks from there.

I had the same concerns. We bought our german shepherds a cattle trough to use as a pool.Attached a pool pump and filter and have to use chemicals to keep algae from growing.
Don't know if this will help you but I treat their pool every other week and won't let them in it for 2 days after chemicals are added.
They have to be supervised when in the water because one is arthritic and can't get out easily more often than not.So whenever I saw them trying to drink the water I told them "No".After about 4 times saying no they've stopped trying. They're in and out 4-5 times a day and will come inside to get a drink.

As long as the pool wasn't just superchlorinated, then your dog shold be fine. The chlorine levels normally maintained in pools are safe for canine and human ingestion.
My dog loves our pool water too, except I have to let her drink it out of my hands.

The best person to check with is a veternarian.
Chlorine is a chemical, so even though you don't want opinions, I would think it may not be OK.

No, there won't be any problem. There isn't enough chlorine in it to do damage. He wouldn't be drinking it if it caused a problem.
