A registry cleaner will not "fix" your computer if files are missing. The "cleaning" process gets rid of electronic "hanging chads," left over and disconnected paths that go nowhere.

I like and use RegCleaner 4.3 by Jouni Vuorio. It's free, fast and never "messes up" one's system. It lists all the software installed on one's computer, so you can see all the "hidden" files that have no uninstall options. (AOL is nefarious for this kind of thing.)

You'll never be bugged for paid upgrades.

The worst bug I've noticed is a "remove" button at the bottom of the software screen that nearly disappears. It always works, however, when I click on the remaining part of the button.

Go to Limewire.com and dowload Window Washer. This is an excellent program that will clean all the rubbish off your system without you needing to go into regedit. Deleting information in regedit is very dangerous and could cause your PC to stop operating.

If, after running Window Washer, you're still receiving the same error messages, I'd reinstall Windows.

Try Ccleaner...
I use it, and have had no problems. Just google ccleaner for the website.

i imagine the question should be 'it really is the least risky'. As you're in all likelihood conscious the registry is the biggest area of domicile windows. in case you corrupt it then domicile windows received't artwork properly. i take advantage of CCleaner (subject matters option) because it makes a backup of all the keys it really is about to delete with the intention to actual be restored if issues bypass worng.
