What is your excuse for not giving a waitress a tip, or, not giving enough of a tip?

bad service, being rude, lousy attitude - those defintely affect how I tip. But I never stiff them completely - then they just think I forgot. You send a better message when you leave just a nickle or dime.

You should always say something to the manager too, they should know what kind of people they have working for them.

Service would have to be REALLY bad before I gave no tip. I have never not given a tip. I have had to complain to a manager a couples times. The most recent time I was with a group that was 7 people total at a famous steak house I won't mention. We got our entire dinner for free (a total bill of over 300 dollars.) We still left a tip for the waitress because SOME of the problems were not her fault, but it definitely was not a very good tip for a 300 dollar bill.

We didn't get seated for half an hour even though we had reservations, no one came to our table for another half and hour, we didn't get any salads or appetizer or drinks for anther half an hour, and then our steaks were cold and coked wrong. It wasn't even that busy and like I said we had reservations.

When a Waitress tells me that I'm Selfish!

The only reason I give a tip, is because I'm satisfied- or Happy, like most cases, with the service I received; that's why a Tip is also called a Gratitude- Happy Money, am I right?

I think about 8 months ago, I went to this Chinese Buffet in Orlando, FL. I think the name is something like 'oriental-east-pearl' or something... anyway, I the waittress didn't refill my drink and were so so slow to bring me my check, plus not much manner. So I gave her a very small tip (note: not No-tip at all, I gave a tip). Then she looked at me and tell me in heavily Chinese accent that I'm Selfish. I was like...'what?' Am I hearing this right? Then she turned around and tell the cashier who's likely to be a management personnel, asking him in Mandarin (btw I understand Mandarin) that who they could do to me to get more tips! (I hope I'm not the only one who interprets this question as a Threat to me!)
But of course this cashier didn't say anything to me and we just left.
And, No, I will NEVER go back to that restaurant again!

If she's surly, doesn't ask about refills, leaves food waiting for 5-10 minutes after bell dings at kitchen, doesn't automatically bring ketchup and straws; forgets to bring bread/butter, brings wrong order or won't acknowledge her mistake, won't delete food items that we almost untouched and inedible....the list goes on...although, I will leave a penny if the service is super bad, then start in increments of 5's(5%-25% tip depending on service)

Well first of all I must say that waitresses/waiters only get a starting wage of only $2.15 an hour. so now with that said I must answer your question. If you chose not to tip you can reduce the tip you were going to leave for each infraction such as rudeness, and inattetiveness. plus they have to report ALL there tips all 100% of them.

Funny you should ask that because last night I was at a restaurant, and the waitress was not only rude, but inattentive to the point where I had to go to the manager to ask for my check so I could leave. I will never take my business to that restaurant again.

If he or she gives bad service, sneeze in my food, ignore me,never comes by to check to see if we are fine, flirts with my bf,spills my drink or put their finger in it..etc....that's some of the reason of why I didn't tip or tipped poorly.
