Is it because they are going by what paul said in the Bible? If so, then women shouldn't cut their hair or wear pants either. I believe that things like that just pertained to those times and that times changes. Why would they stop someone from from full filling their full potential in serving Christ?

By the way, this question is not hostile....just curious

Paul is actually contradictory on the subject of women in the priesthood.

First, Paul only designated two church offices: Bishop and Deacon. Deacons were what we know as priests today.

At the end of his letter to Romans, Paul instructs his audience to welcome Phoebe, the deacon of the church of Cenchrea, and to provide her any help she might deem necessary.

Further, most fail to note that Junias was also named as an apostle by Paul earlier in Romans. Junias was a woman's name in ancient Rome.

I think it all boils down to tradition. In the western world, woman didn't have positions of real leadership in much of ANYTHING until maybe 100 years ago or so. I'm sure that was a huge part of the reason why none of the Twelve Apostles were women. And then you look at the early church and while women did lead at times, they were never THE leaders. And so forth and so on.

You get to today and the Catholic Church has all sorts of theological weavings about women priests that are mostly based on tradition. And, while this isn't always a bad thing, the Catholic Church is VERY slow to change.

Nuns are the highest a women can get in the Catholic church and they are not priests they are the equivalent a male monk.

I think it just has to do with the way they see Eve and how she went against Gods command, really I'm not sure.

Women cannot be priests (priestesses) because the church was born at a time and in a place where women were considered to be property, veritable slaves to their fathers and husbands. Also, in the church's early days, it battled against a religious way which considered women to be divine. Between it's roots and it's adversary, women were subjugated and any woman who rebelled against the system was killed. Why do you think so many women were torched at the stake as witches? How many men have you heard of being put to death for witchcraft?

None of Christ's apostles were women, although he did have followers, like Mary Magdalen and others. At the last supper Jesus told his apostles to go forth...who's sins you forgive, they are forgiven, who's sins you shall retain, they are retained, etc. He wasn't talking to any women there but to his male apostles. He told Peter that "upon this rock you will build My church." No women there either.

Times are getting tougher for the Catholic Church to have enough vocations for adequate priests, to be sure, but not so tough that any Pope has decided to allow the priesthood to be shared by women because of the faith in Jesus' word.

Paul wasnt being rude. When he said that in the bible he was trying to protect men. Women are lovely and beautiful. He was trying to say that in the house of God it is hard for men to concentraite when we dress certain ways. He said once that we were not to braid our hair and wear gold....he was referring to a way some women dressed whom worshipped a sex Godess and wore gold and braids in their hair at that time. When it comes to a womans place in ministry the bible gives women many wonderful places for which they can meet their potential in the church....through childrens ministries, family ministries, ministering to the young mothers and new wives etc etc. It does say that we are not to dominate over men int he teaching dept...but not because men are better....we are equal, but we each have different roles....all wonderful in the purpose they serve. Paul was a interesting man whom has often been misunderstood. He simple knew about mens weaknesses to womens beauty and tried to teach women about the ways they were naturally (inherantly designed by God) to meet the greatest needs! He was a good man and never meant any harm.

I'm not into this stuff at all, but I went to a Catholic school for 2 years, so I know about it. It is because Jesus was the first priest and he was a man and they want to keep the tradition going.

When Jesus chose his Apostles, He chose only men although He had many disciples, among them many holy women. The Catholic church, in ordaining only men for the priesthood, is following the model of Jesus. Woman do have many opportunities to become nuns and live a religious life dedicated to serving our Lord Jesus, in both active and contemplative settings.

fairly a lack of files of what precisely the priesthood is. The priest stands in for the bridegroom on the marriage between Jesus and his Church, and he's the in basic terms animal (male of the species in accordance to previous testomony regulation) that would properly be provided for the atonement of sin which each and each and each and each and each Mass does. What would or not it is to have a lady stand in for the bridegroom with the bride in basic terms to point to condoning gay marriage huh? a lady does no longer stand in for the groom.
