My heart would be a passionate kiss
My imagination would be a large house with a very large bank of windows open to a balcony with a view of the tranquil valley and hills flowing with birds and wild life scurrying, maybe a horse grazing. The door open and the wind gently blowing the shear drape inward. Me on the plushest mound of feather mattress and pillows all around. It is morning and the smell is fresh with dew and flowers. I am smiling with my hands behind my head, elbows to the side, head propped up, just enjoying the view. All is good. I am happy. Not a care in the world. (This is what I imagine)

This is actually a very good question. One I haven't really thought about.
I suppose I always do both when I'm working on a canvas. I know I put my heart into the work and, unless you're duplicating a landscape or whatever, your imagination always directs what you paint.
