I accidentaly broke her leg or a bone somewhere near her leg because she bit me and was holding on tightly with her beak, so I had to squeeze her and while doing that I just heard a pop. How can I treat her on my own because I cannot take her to the vet?

This happened to my little girl's canary. The vet said it was extremely unlikely he would survive the shock and pain. I hung a hens nest (plastic w. bird bedding lining, for breeding type), in the cage and we hand fed him bread w. a bit of milk and a bit of cake for 3 days while he cried, the 4th day when I took his blanket off the cage he was standing on the leg and has lived another 6 years since, he's 9 and going strong, the wife calls him the little old man. Keep him warm in the dark w. blanket over cage as much as pos for the first days, keep the nest low in case he tries to jump out, if he has a mate she will take him seeds but DON'T introduce a new bird to him, also get some super strength seeds and put them w/in reaching distance on the nest, offer him lettuce and cucumber, drip water off the lettuce into his beak so he doesn't dehydrate. Good luck, you can't splint tiny bird's legs anyway so there's nothing the vet can do that you can't. Don't worry about what jerks who have never had a bird say either, accidents happen to everyone sometimes.

If the bone broke through the skin - she could get an infection (i.e. bone broke and punctured the skin) - that could kill her. Take her to the vet. I work for a vet who sees birds - they took a simple x-ray, then made a "splint" out of surgical tape to hold the leg as straight as possible. If you don't get her looked at and it is broke - she might have problems eating and perching! Drinking! Just be responsible and take her in. Would you not go in if your leg was broke?

If it gets infected then yes she could die.Take her to the vet. When you bought her you took the responsability of looking after her and now she's ill she needs to see a vet. It's just like if you broke a leg you would go straight to the hospital because your in pain wouldn't you? The only person who could cure her is a vet.

If you are unable to afford a vet bill, you should immediately contact your local humane society. You can surrender your budgie to them, they will either take care of the leg if possible or euthanize the bird, which sounds horrible, but isn't as horrible as letting a pet suffer. You cannot treat it yourself. What will happen is that the bone with heal itself in time, if it isn't too late, and will form inproperly. It needs to be set by a professional to ensure the bone will heal properly. I urge you to get in touch with a bird rescue centre or your local humane society. I realise you probably didn't intend to be malicious, but it is now your responsibility to act in the bird's well-being. As soon as you're done reading this message, get on the phone and start exploring your options.

I trust those saying locate yet another vet. there is continuously something to be finished. I once got here across a duck which were hit by a automobile. It had a damaged wing, a damaged leg and had lost an eye fixed. The vet I rushed it to needed to placed it down yet I insisted on surgical operation. i became provided with a one legged duck with an "eyepatch" and a splint on both wings lol I appeared after him until eventually eventually he healed up and the splints and head dressing ought to come off, then gave him to a flora and fauna sanctuary. with the exception of having to study how now to not swim in circles, he did nice. reckoning on the wreck your chicken's leg should be able to be splinted (see the link lower than). yet even amputation should be a extra constructive option than leaving it with a damaged leg dragging round. Geez... if vets are not prepared to flow the extra mile for complicated situations, why did they grow to be vets?!

You should get it checked out by the vet. If you cant afford it have a yard sale or sell something on eBay. If you have nothing to sell gently feel your birds leg so you can see if its broken , bruised , or out of its socket so you know if you can wrap it or need the vet to wrap it if you don't know how or get the vet to put it back in its socket.

If you can't afford to take the bird to a vet then you can't afford to have a pet. Would love to see you break your leg and not be treated, just to see how it feels. Give the bird to someone who can care for it!

most likely, if not from shock, then from being unable to get to its food and water.

suck it up, and take the poor little thing to the vet for proper treatment. once it has healed, then post the poor bird for sale, since you obviously don't have any business having such a delicate pet or any pet for that matter!

here's a clue, animals bite, mostly when they feel threatened. birds will especially bite if you don't properly handle them and teach them their manners. dogs will bite if mistreated, cats will bite if mistreated.

you need to really, really need assess you anger issues if you can break a poor 2 ounce birds leg because it bit you, it most likely didn't even hurt. i have a maroon-bellied conure (a much bigger bird) who will bite me often, as unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, I can't spend as much time with her as I used to, but it is just a pinch and truth be told, it doesn't even hurt.

do your bird a HUGE favor; get it vet care for its leg, then rehome the poor little thing!

Call a vet and ask about payment plans. Most vets will do the work and let you pay a little each month. This is something you really can't/shouldn't try to fix yourself. Good luck.
