Most of the reason, this happens b/c he doesn't like the litterbox b/c it's too dirty or there is something bad about the type of litter in it. Trust me, cats WANT to use the litterbox and it upsets them not to. Or, it could be something is upsetting his stomach. An example of that is if the cat has worms, or if you have given him too much catlax (for hairballs).
First thing I'd suggest is evaluating the litterbox and type of litter. Is the litterbox clean and scooped often? Is the litter or liner smelly? Is there something offensive about the room it is in? Secondly, does he do this after eating? Have you tried changing his food? It would be good to take the cat to a vet after eliminating (pardon the pun) the litterbox factor.

use unscnted litter, like the arm and hammer, or the new tidy cat, it has on the right side as you look at it, new, tidy lock. No smell to it. Also, keep the bedroom door shut, once they start that, they will always poop or pee in the bed. There is a mattress pad that is so thin and no moisture gets through it at mattress world, get one in case. I also would take the cat to the vet, it might have a problem it is trying to tell you, My friend's cats had worms very bad and they did that. I have a cat that is jus a brat when she smells another cat or has a urinary infection, she will try that, we have thrown out allot of mattresses, so doors stay closed. If you havn't had the cat long, find it another home, I wouldn't put up with that again. Some behavior problems can be corrected with medication, ( hormones)Good Luck

Here's something a little different. Your box may be too small. Hopefully you don't have one of those boxes with a roof or dome. Go and buy a plastic container BIGGER than a standard litter box. Fill it half way with scoopable litter. Scoop it every day. The first time you fill it your cat will be stimulated to use it and hopefully hooked on the new luxury. Never let the box get full of waste or too low. This has been my secret for years. I have never had a poop mishap, not even on the sides of the box. Cats bigger than a kitten need bigger boxes. Besides this your cat may just be mad about something, like a new pet in the house or some abuse you don't know about. Hope this helps.

This behavior sometimes starts after something changed that upsets the cat. did you change anything recently like food or kitty litter? If so, change it back. Do not wash the clothes or bedding with regular bleach, use an oxygen beach to change the odor of it (regualr bleach has an odor, oxygen bleach does not). If nothing has changed recently try the new wheat litter - you cat may prefer that. I also found (the hard way) that my cat cannot drink milk - caused him to go immediately wherever he was. Switched the cat to plain water (I use brita as cats don't care for chlorine smell) and strictly dry food, no wet stuff. Better for his teeth and less problems missing the litter.

Ok, you need to make sure the litter box is clean and changed often. If it is nasty the cat just won't use it.
If you can catch him doing the business around the house, rub his nose in it (enough so he gets a yucky taste but don't be over the top) and use the cats name to growl him so he learns he is doing wrong. Use a strong voice so he realises you are telling him off and put him straight in the litter box, carry him there if you have to!
When you catch him doing his business in his litterbox praise him like crazy! He'll learn and you need to be patient and active in this technique until he stops messing the house.
Hope this helped...

Here Are some tips I have used with my cat and she has not gone pooping in the house again.
1. Keep the litter box clean
2. Keep the litter box in the same place, they do not like to search for it.
3. Every time she has an accident take her to the spot, put her nose to it (not in it), and then take her to the litter box.
I have used this with all my cats and never had a problem.

this could sound peculiar, and that i'm not sure if i'm on the main appropriate song, because you assert this occurs maximum oftentimes suitable after cleansing the clutter container, yet, my mom had a matching concern along with her cat. She (cat) could poop on bathrugs, the door mat, surely everywhere different than her clutter container, in spite of the shown fact that, she'd continuously pee interior the container only superb. somebody pronounced that she get a 2nd clutter container, and now there are -no- issues. I genuinely have heard that cats could be very specific approximately the place they circulate, and a few are very specific approximately retaining issues separated (case in point, my husband tells me that our cat many times separates issues to cut up facets of the container), and a few are finicky adequate to wish a 2nd container. it could additionally be worth thinking approximately what's occurring interior the domicile, or whilst this started happening, in the event that they have not continuously carried out it. case in point, my mum and dad' cat continuously have been given very under pressure out whilst my mum and dad could circulate on trip (somewhat freaked whilst they moved), and as quickly as I have been given married final 365 days I had some issues sent to their domicile. nicely, the cat started pooping on the rugs back (this modification into before the two-container answer), and my mom desperate that she replace into getting worried approximately there being packing containers around. So, she placed them in yet another room and close the door, and the cat replace into extra desirable for a mutually as. I certainly don't understand what triggered the main modern-day spat for the cat, yet from what I comprehend, my mom have been given the 2nd container around Christmas, and hasn't had an argument because. sturdy success!

The first thing to do is get him to a veterinarian to be sure he doesn't have any physical problems! If that checks out OK, then be sure his litter box is cleaned at least twice a day. If he is still not using it every time, change the type of litter you're using. If that doesn't work, move his litter box to another location...maybe into you bedroom, since that seems to be his favorite place to relieve himself anyway!
Good luck!

Does the cat appear to be fatter at it's butt, than the front of it? It's top heavy. Not sure why that happens, but I suggest getting it to a vet, fast! This problem could be fatal. I lost a kitten like that once. I had several kittens to give away, and it was one of them. Might have kept it, if it had lived. My grandma once wanted me to have two cats.

You may want to have him checked at your vet. It is sometimes a sign that there is a problem. It may also be a behavior if he is upset with you...has anything changed lately in your home?
Sometimes he might need a litter box with a lid for privacy...they embarrass easily.
