I hate when people use the work "like" when they are trying to describe things or tell a story.

Not that I should complain too much. The area I grew up in has many dialects and phrases that only natives understand. I digress. Where I am currently living it is normal to hear the word awhile after questions, but sometimes just statements. An example: "Can I get you something to drink awhile?" I don't get it. Another term used here that I was not familiar with is "outtenthelight". Yes, meshed together like that, and heck, I don't even know if I spelled it correctly. It means turn off the light(s). Weird. Hope this answers your question.

I'm with the first answer. How did it become fashionable to say the word "like" 10 times in a sentence that only has 20 words? I've actually caught myself mocking them with "like, like, like, like" when accosted by with this kind of babble. Invariably they look at me as if I had 2 heads and say, "Like, what's his problem?"

Maybe I'll start a counter trend by using "poo" the same way they use "like."

All instant messaging abbreviations, all AOL talk, all 'leet' stuff, the word "blog", and "toodles". Don't get me wrong, I'm all for change in language and I'm actually very up on technology (I'm a programmer), but I just don't see why that means that everybody has to try and talk dumber than a preschooler.

EH in Canada, we do not even write it like it sounds which would be like the letter A, it still gets tagged onto the end of sentences here.

I hate when people use "like" or "whatever" (I even wrote a paper about how annoying the word "whatever" is)

"Hella" annoys me, so does "you know".
I'm sorry but I use like after every other word. I can't help it; I'm, like, a valley girl!
