I'm not sure, but it's clear he didn't feel confident as a spokesperson for God.

Kind of ironic, considering how quick he was to give excuses to God.

Different translations of the bible open up new ways of understanding difficult Hebrew phrases. This odd phrase aral s'fatayim was enigmatic even during the time of our rabbis, two thousand years ago. In the rabbis' time, as in our own, most Jews did not know the Hebrew of the bible, and so teachers retold biblical stories in the Aramaic vernacular of the day. In one Aramaic telling of Moses' protest to God, Moses does not say that he is slow of speech; rather, Moses says to God, "I value words, and take great care not to say that which should not be said." "I value words" is very different from saying "I am slow of speech." Beneath Moses' uncertainty lay the very wisdom that makes for a great leader. Moses recognized the power of words. For many of us, we speak rashly, saying whatever pops into our heads, regardless of how our statements may be received. The old clichés are true, words can be weapons that we hurl at others in an effort to hurt them. Or words can offer relief from pain, helping to heal wounds. What made Moses a noble character is that he took time before he spoke to choose his words carefully.

First of all, the text you speak of is in Exodus 4:10, not chapter 3.

As for the text, Moses was simply making excuses. This is his second excuse, that he wasn't a great orator. The first excuse was that the people would not believe him (Chpt 3). That is why God said, "I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say" (vs 12).

He is just making an excuse to tell God to find someone else to force into this rather unpleasant situation.

He doesn't mean anything, and I really doubt that he was an unskilled speaker, seeing as he had been raised essentially as a prince in Pharaoh's household.

If anybody was qualified to engage Pharoah as the strong man with knowledge of the Egyptians, their ways of thinking, their dealings, etc. etc. etc. it was Moses. Moses just didn't feel like giving up his nice little idyllic life there in Midian.

Moses was trying to pass the buck.

Stupid, lazy, Moses. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!

Moses was offered a piece of gold and a hot coal when he was a child by Pharoah (his "mother's" father). Moses blindedly chose the coal, and burnt his hand, which he then place in his mouth to cool, thus burning his tongue.

He thus had a speach impediment. But that didn't stop God from using him to do wondrous things.

And God can use you, too, if you should choose Him today.

Whom this day shall you choose? :)

I think there are many interpretations of that. What is most prominent to me though, is that he has a stutter. This is because God told him exactly what to say, but he needed Aaron to say it for him because he has a stutter, and he wouldn't be much of an orator. I love that God used Moses and Aaron in this way, because it shows that you don't have to have a certain talent to serve God.

Moses is a very much an introvert person who usually will think many times before he speak. He also tends to be lack of confidence and thus very often need Aaron to speak on his behalf.

Moses became a properly knowledgeable guy on the time. He became the son of a Pharaoh and they were properly knowledgeable. So understanding this, God does no longer use that variety. So God took him out of there for 40 years to make him like maximum individuals, user-friendly human beings. Then once there God might want to apply him, for each human being would comprehend Moses (us) isn't smart sufficient to steer so it would want to be God. God makes use of those who let him, yet also those who God can shine by to boot. take care.

Moses was put to a test before pharaoh before he became part of the family. A lump of hot coal and a lump of gold was put before him and he crawled (he was still a baby) over to th ecoal and put it in his mouth. Thus he had a speech impediment due to this act.

He just was not a gifted speaker. His brother Aaron did a lot of work on his behalf (better public speaker). Moses was more action oriented in deeds rather than words.
