Hi, I've been working with people for a couple of decades and when it comes to losing weight I can tell you that you need to restrict calories while properly nourishing your body and exercise (all of which you seem to be doing). In order to lose 20 pounds you'll need to burn-off or restrict 70,000 calories (3500 calories per pound). Since you're exercising and dieting keep the following in mind:

1) Check with your physician to be certain that you are physically able to reduce your calories and increase your exercise habits safely.

2) Make certain that the calories you are eating are as balanced as possible. Finding out how much protein, carbs, and fats your body needs on a daily basis can really help keep your energy levels high all day long. The #1 reason my clients tell me that they've stopped dieting or exercising in the past is because of low energy ebbs. Also remember that you may need supplements to help things along.

3) While exercising (before, during, and after) be sure to consume enough water. The key is not to be 'thirsty' (overtly) during this time of exercise.

4) Adding weight bearing exercise (i.e., lifting weights) will help to tone your body and the thermogenic (fat burning) effect will last long after you've stopped working out -- even if your workout is simply walking).

5) Remember that you'll probably hit plateaus (times when you'll stop losing weight) several times during your weight loss progress. This is completely normal and is only temporary but it can last for a couple of weeks at a time. It is very important to remember that even if your scale isn't showing progress, your entire body is being positively effected by your efforts.

6) Measure different parts of your body (neck, upper arms, lower arms, chest, abs, waist, belly, butt, thighs, etc.) and do it accurately. Write these measurements down and check them once every 2 weeks. This will help you remember that your body is 'reducing' all over -- not just in one particular area. If you're weight training you may actually notice a slight increase in some areas of your body (don't worry -- if you're a woman you won't start looking like a bodybuilder).

7) Keep focused on your end goal and concentrate on losing maybe 1 pound a week -- sometimes you'll lose more, sometimes less. As long as it's an average, it's okay.

8) Lastly, remember that you're doing a WONDERFUL thing for your body.

Keep up the good work. I've worked with hundreds of people in the past 20 years (mostly women) who have lost (individually) HUNDREDS of pounds safely. Better still, they've kept it off -- Kay lost over 350 pounds and has been at her goal weight for 7 years now.

As for what to take, that depends entirely on what your body needs. Anyone who suggests that you take something that 'works for everyone' is either confused or deluded. For example, if you had a twin brother or sister your bodies could react completely different to certain supplements or foods on a metabolic level. If you want to learn more about what you might want to take you can visit my site (below).

Any questions, don't hesitate to write and ask.

You MIGHT lose 3.5 pounds a week, but a quick weight drop is often followed by a weight rebound. If you try this by calorie restriction, you may cause the starvation reflex to set in and trigger a metabolic slow down, making it more difficult to impossible to healthily lose weight. You'd be better off going for a more moderate weight loss by starting a healthy diet that is calorically consistent with your desired weight, get some exercise and eat smaller more frequent meals.

Well considering I'm 5'4'' and weigh 180lbs. I think that you will come close. You could lose 2-3lbs your first 2 weeks but after that you will have to do some serious cardio and keep up with the small meals. I was able to lose 17 lbs in 10 weeks.

Good luck. Maybe I should join in.

i think dat if u wanna loose weight id focus more on the cardio like runnin den on weight lifting, also eatingthe 5-6 small meals is really only for wen u wanna put on muscle, try and eat alot of wholegrain foods to fill u up. start with sumthing like wheeatbix or special k in the morning, a chicken and salad sandwhich on brown bread for lunch with a youghurt and fruit. and for dinner sumthing like chicken or turkey or sum fish, try and cook healthy too like steaming or poaching....... poaching keeps the food very moist, just put the food into a baking tin, fill with water covering the bottom of the food, add all the herbs and lemon juice u want and cook in a moderate oven:) for snacks trie dried fruits and nuts........... dried figs are so sweet and 98% fat free!! also try and drink as much water as u can. trust me i did dis kinda diet for a long time and lost 5 stone.. but dont think u cant cheat every now and again, if u dont cheat every now and again den u defo wont b able to last the diet for a long time..good luck:)

This will work, if you can stick with it. I am 6'1" tall and weight 300 pounds three years ago. By a very similar regimine, I am now the same height (no surprise there, huh?) but I weigh 185, which puts me at the upper end of "normal."
Stick with it, be pleased with your tiny improvements, and you will be amazed at the results in time.
Good luck.

it sounds reasonable and attainable
at 5'3 you should weigh only 110-115
so with any wt loss results you will try harder to lose more once you see some results
good luck
