Carnival has never been real strict about their dress guidelines. You don't have to be completely formal for the captains cocktail party, but you would fit in a little better. If you don't want to wear a tux, a nice dress shirt (button-up, long sleeve is best) and nice pants. I don't really suggest jeans, but if you want, you would probably get in. As far as shoes, nice dress shoes, cleaned/polished is good. Just be sure to match, that is what is important.
Not too many teens will go to the cocktail party, but some do. Most teens tend to do things together on the ship, most make friends the first night and then spend the rest of the cruise with them.
As for the rest of the cruise, it is a little dressy. But, I have seen people come in with just shorts or jeans on. Even though carnival says not to, it isn't uncommon, I've never seen them turn anyone away. However, if there is a meal that requires a surcharge and is adult only, they are much more strict with this. Personally, I just feel more comfortable following the dress code, but each person is different.
You can also ask your travel agent. They can go into more detail for you, most of the brochures from the cruise lines provides limited information. But if you ask your agent they will be able to help you with everything.
Have a great time!

I went on this very cruise in January of this year. Formal night is just that formal. Dresses for ladies and at least slacks and a nice shirt for men. I'm not too sure about teens attendance at the cocktail party. The rest of the nights it's not as formal but the dining area is really something and most people do dress up. Save the casual wear for breakfast and lunch. I hope that you have an awesome time, I did. Best of luck.

I only have been given back from one on a distinctive cruise line, in spite of the shown fact that it stopped in those comparable ports. Cabo is thru a techniques the prettiest. it is somewhat unique and has superb blue water. you will could desire to take a lifeboat to get to shore although, which replace into genuinely particularly relaxing. i presumed there could be white sand seashores and organic splendor interior the ports, yet there have been no longer. there are nonetheless relaxing issues to do. In Cabo, there is a variety of of procuring and eating places. In Mazatlan, you may excursion a brewery. In Puerto Vallarta it replace into humorous because of the fact the port is optimal for the time of from Wal Mart! ha, circulate parent. yet there is all varieties of procuring there too. And sturdy eating places. And at each port you may have the locals offering you excursions and snorkeling and all varieties of stuff. have relaxing! I had a blast!!!
