and why dont they sell liquor in supermarkets there like they do in jersey?

Because they fear the wrath of God.
All that 'remember the sabbath and keep it holy' stuff.
What they fail to realize is that the best beer in the World is brewed by Trappist monks, and they seem to have no problem drinking on a Sunday.
If monks can brew it that well, then I'd call that divine inspiration...which is proof enough for me that if there really is a God, he doesn't care about beer on a Sunday.
New York (and many other states) just need to get with the program.

Stronger blue laws.

You used to not be able to buy any at all on Sundays.
