My neighbor said that her dad's gonna buy a bbgun and she said if my cat (an outdoor cat) ever goes to her house that her dads gonna shoot it just for coming in her yard. He doesnt really go across the street.. But, wouldn't that be considered animal cruelty? there's other ways to keep a cat away besides hurting it.

im worried now :( plzzz help me

it is illegal in our city:
KILLING OR INJURING ANIMALS.
(a) No person shall maliciously, or willfully, and without the consent of the owner, kill or injure a farm animal, dog, cat or other domestic animal that is the property of another. This section does not apply to a licensed veterinarian acting in an official capacity.

(b) Whoever violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree.
(Ord. 44-04. Passed 6-21-04.)

Yes, that would be animal cruelty I believe. Shooting an animal with a BB gun would inflict unnecessary pain and fear on the animal. And you shouldn't kill an animal unless there is risk of life, limb or severe emergency.

It is bad karma to unnecessarily inflict pain, suffering and fear on an animal. If an animal is attacking someone then you may have to kill it provided you are acting with the limitations of local laws. But, in this case the animal should be killed quickly so that it does not suffer and fear.

See if you can find some way to keep the cat from getting into the neighbor's yard. Attempt diplomatic negotiations. Consult your lawyers and law enforcement for more info.

Have you tried keeping the cat high on catnip?

She probably wont do it, probably just sick of your cat pooping in the yard and sitting on their cars.

You quoted the law against killing animals, however I am sure there are also laws about cats running loose. Leash laws DO include cats you know.

I understand your concern, but I also understand your neighbor. I live in a quiet culdesac on a dead end, and I have cats coming to my house from god only knows where. 2 from the dumb woman down the street who bought 2 kittens and threw them outside the first day!

Then 2 from the lady who lives next to her, they used to have more..And at least 5 others that I have NO idea where they came from.

They dig up my bushes and yard, poop and pee all over my grass and expensive red rock to the point I now have weeds growing through the ground cover. Not to mention the damage they do to our cars!

WHY should I have to pay for the damage THEIR cats are doing?

So my plan is to get some cat traps from the humane society because I am sick of it.

What you need to do, is either bring your cat inside, or get a large cat enclosure for it so it stays out of everyones property. That would be the responsible thing to do.

Our neighbor shot our cat with a BBGun and the other neighbor actually beat our dog with shovel. We called the police. They told us there was nothing they could do because the animal left our property unless the animal died.

Give your neighbor a rabid cat for Christmas!

Er, um, seriously, if you can get proof, like video, then you might be able to get some help from animal rights.

Keep your cat inside!! There is also a leash law so they can say you broke that and if the guy harms your cat, he can get away with it. Regardless, you should report him for such threats. He could even do something crazy like come to your yard and put antifreeze around and your cat will drink it and die. And you may never know why.

In the end, though, you must remember this--nothing will bring back your beloved kitty. Protect him or her before it's too late. Move or keep him/her inside. PLEASE!

Oh, idea--how about an invisble fence? Look it up. Or a real one.

Yes it is animal cruelty I believe it is also against the law. Call the police and ask if it is against the law where you live to shoot an animal you know is a pet with a BBgun. Then let your neighbors dad know you will call cops on him. Or call the SPCA and report him for it Either way he will get in trouble if he tries something withyour pet.

Yes it is, very much so. You could maybe go and talk to this guy,and find out if this is actually true, whether he REALLY intends to do such a thing? Sometimes, and I'm not excusing him, people say things like" I'll shoot that thing" in anger, but would not carry out the threat.Does he strike you as the sort of person that would do it? I suggest you go and talk to him, explain that if your cat does get hurt in such a way, then you feel you would have to report the matter to the appropriate people.Other than that, and keeping your cat inside, theres not much more you can do. I wish you luck and sincerely hope this person was just talking out the back of his "bottom"!

nope, not at all, a bb gun doesn't kill or injure, it just stings the animal, once we did that because the neighbor cat kept hunting a hurting our cat, don't worry about it, if your worried ask why they will shoot it, if it isn't doing harm to them, than they obviously have some problems, a couple shots isn't going to kill it, it will just sting, when it gets shot once, it will never go over there again so you'll have nothing to worry about. If that doesn't satisfy you, get a shock collar and shock it when it goes out of the yard, it wont hurt it, it just lets them know that they aren't supposed to go over there.

Yes that is animal cruelty. You should maybe contact Animal Police or if your cat goes in their yard you will have to pay a fee, or you can keep your cute little kitty indoors.

Unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it unless he actually shoots your cat. But I would contact your local SPCA and let them know that if any cats turn up with BB pellets in them, you know right where they should go. Perhaps then something legal can be done about it. And yes, it is animal cruelity, not to mention child abuse for making you so afraid.
