When we are willing for the Holy Spirit to use us in ministry, is it our obligation to be prepared and willing to be used at all times? Or, once saved can He use us anytime He chooses?

The one word answer is "Yes!"

Since God is sovereign over all things, He can use anyone anytime He chooses. Once saved, we are more likely to be around other Christians who encourage our walk with Him, but we can only fulfill our highest destiny in Him by being prepared with prayer and deliberate seeking of Him alone.

What a perfect goal it is to be ready and willing to be used of the Lord at all times; yet the best we can do is surrender ourselves to Jesus daily, and pray that our wills do not interfere with His. Willingness for the Holy Spirit to direct us for ministry means willingness to let Him into every area of self. You know, our ministries are not only individualized mighty callings, but the way we live our lives each ordinary moment.

Letting him be first in our minds "casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5) gives us the tools to be used for His and our greatest delight.

1 Thessalonians 5:1 states "Pray without ceasing," the one sure way we can prepare for God to use us most productively for His kingdom at all times.

Both. He uses you continually but in the same time, He is training you for something greater. So, you are always in preparation but you always have to be ready to minister at your present state. He doesn't want to give you a sermon to minister, but He wants to make you a sermon... so everything in your life is useful.

God can and will use us at any time He chooses. Although, we have the free will to accept or reject it. God has His way of getting our attention when He really wants us.

truthfully, he can use us any times you want. However, it's best if you can be ready to be used. Just remember that God will work in-spite of us.
