My daughter was 8 years old and decided she wanted to learn to ride without her training wheels to her daddy as a Father's Day present. The best thing I ever did is do a search about teaching your kid to ride their bike before we started to learn and I found a site called ridingmadeeasy.com they had the easiest instruction that was so full of common sense, and none of the running along side the kid's bike hanging on crap. She learned in about 2 hours! I wish I would have looked for it much earlier!

My child was 5 years old when they began riding a bike without training wheels. She did great.

I think all three would have been between 5 and 6. I am not even sure that my son ever had training wheels because I found him a tricycle like I used to have. My grand daughter was nearly 7, I think before we finally took them off but she doesn't have the occasion to ride a bike that I did.
It was an economic necessity for us kids (and mum and dad) because we didn't have a car, so the 5 miles into town was a commonplace. I certainly never had stabilizers (such things didn't exist) and it took several goes up and down the drive till I realised my sister had let go the saddle. I looked round to check - and fell off (of course)!

I don't have children but I started without training wheels at age 3.
I never used training wheels.
The bike I rode was a miniature scaled down version of an adult bike.
Narrow wheels and everything.
It belonged to a cousin of mine. I have never seen another one like it since.
I do not recall, if I ever fell off. I don't think I did.
I found it very easy to learn but then again, I have always had a good sense of balance.
I have NO idea where they got that bike. I've never seen another one like it!
I was IN LOVE with that bike from the moment I saw it.
I got my OWN bike at age 6 and I never rode with training wheels and I never got hurt.
I think I fell off of that one once, while riding it on gravel. I remember it sliding sideways but I don't remember if I fell completely off of it or got hurt.
If I did, it must have been minor.
