anything that's called a "pick up line" is by definition, kind of cheesy. Please just say hi and a little compliment never hurts. Introduce yourself and be funny and charming. It's not rocket science - it's much much harder.

Trick is to take the rejection like a man...Personally, I would not fall for any pick up lines from a guy. That's so dang cheesy.
It's better if you go to a bookstore and strike up a conversation with someone...but DO NOT sond like a desperate perv! (your words)
Remember if you want a lady, you have to treat her like one. If you want some cheap ho, then use a cheesy pick up line.

What's wrong with "Hi!", then maybe how's it going. Then ask what brought that person to where ever you happen to be that evening. If you get that far you should be able to keep a conversation going. Men way over think this.

casually compliment her on something she's wearing or doing, ask how her day has been going then quickly find out her interests and get on her frequency and chat up her...don't ever appear desperate and do be somewhat mysterious.
