My biology teachers said that the only reason an animal has color is if they can see colors. It is especially important to be noticed in a dense dark jungle environment if you hope to attract a mate.

Parrots are one of the many bird species that see color. They see less color than we do, but if they look at a green, they see more types of green than we do. They can even see ultraviolet, which is probably how some parrots tell the difference between males and females. It's also how they can tell fruit is ripe.

Humans have special oil filled rods in our eyes. They help us see color. In parrots, they have they same type of rods, but they're filled with colored oil. That' the reason why they see some colors better than we do.

YES they see way better than we do.

Parrots can see into the near ultra violent spectrum, meaning they can tell if a fruit is ripe simply by looking at it.

They also see colors a lot differently than we do. Black and white are almost non existant to parrots. Black, and white can be many shades of color or a solid color. for example, a black shirt to you can be purple, or shades of red to a parrot.

They can also see further than us, this allows them to see a hawk, or predator coming and give them time to escape.

Thank you for asking a different question! I am sick of looking at 'does he like me' questions. I believe Parrots do see colour, but I could never be certain as I am not a parrot, but we have kept quite a few as pets and they do seem to react to different colours. Why do you want to know?!

Yes they do, and Iv'e found that they have favorite colors to. I had one parrot who only liked red pellets and red toys. Then I had another with a thing for green. Most of them seem to be drawn to green, so I decorate the spaces around their cages with green and bird safe plants.

Yes they do see colors. They can even be trained to identify colors. Have you ever seen any of the documentaries on that African Gray that can identify colors, shapes, #'s and what not? I cant remeber his name, but you'll see it on PBS or Discoverey channel from time to time.

If the coloring is qualified foodstuff coloring it truly is likely ok. Why difficulty with coloring except you want messy searching birds? My birds get undeniable colored sticks to play with. they don't care purely as a canines doesn't care if his deal with is formed like a bone.
