Basically, there are illegal and legal methods to entering any nation. If you enter legally, you are more apt to prosper because you either possess or are on your way to possessing the necessary tools and disposition to contribute positively not only to your family but to the greater 'American family', i.e. society.
If one can't feed himself or family in a given nation, then looking elsewhere may be a natural inclination, particularly if your own nation supports and encourages your poor to emigrate to other more tolerant nations.
The problem with that is, those who came to the US before, illegally or legally, have some traction (a home, a job, a car, some cash, a life basically), and when you add more labor to the existing force at those wage-levels, you are hurting the incumbent immigrants severely.
The issue is economic policy: Mexico's and America's. And unfortunately, neither nation is led by men and women patriotic enough to say 'this is my backyard and I'm going to tend to and secure it'. The problem is always someone else's when it comes to immigration policy discussions between and within the US and Mexico.
One nation can only sustain so much immigration before the quality of life becomes severely and irreversibly compromised. No one wants that, least of all those already here.

You have to bear in mind in this day and age the law selects which laws to enforce which ones to ignore. How can we ever accomplish anything when the police cannot even ask are you legal-illegal. illegals use so many alis Robert can be Juan by Monday. You'd think after 9-11 we'd want to know just who is in the country and what if any police record do they have To many people are running around loose and we have no idea who they are. The lessons of 9-11 surely haven't been completely learned the Mexico border is wide open anyone can enter with enough money every police official in Mexico can be bribe it's only a matter of time before all hell breaks loose

I agree BUT I am kinda confused. I read an article that said most people who are illegal now, are illegal because they let their papers/visas expire and they never renewed or went home.
Most of them had jobs and would not need to rob bank or a grocery store. Very few enter by swimming the Rio.....do they?
Oh and I am not justifying anything, illegal is illegal! Just wondered how this played in.

Breaking the law is not OK, I agree with you, but when illegals cross the border, do they carry a gun and threaten anyone's life? Do they kill people to get across the border? The only life they are risking is their own, so you can't compare a robber with an illegal.

i don't. i think they are not worth spending the money to ferret them all out.
declare them all citizens and make them pay for the services they are already using. cheap and easy! and profitable!
i'm pretty sure the country doesn't have that many bank robbers... how about rounding up every person that ever drank underage? they broke the law once, right? or is that sort of more trouble than it's really worth?

Exactly! Entering the USA is ILLEGAL, EVEN if you 'just want to feed your starving family', it's still ILLEGAL. Robbing a store for food to 'feed your hungry family' is still ILLEGAL!

I think the U.S. needs to start holding the countries that these people are coming from responsible for caring to their own people. Lets start imposing sanctions and not buying so many goods from them. Lets not be so friendly toward them and tell them to stop their people from coming into out country. We just need to make sure these countries stop them humanely.

Illegal workers are her because Big Corporations and Agri-business hires them and because Congress takes money from big corporations and agri-business to not do anything about it.If you are going to prosecute illegals than you should prosecute the people who hire them and the politicians who don't do anything about it.
