Peanut butter is fine for dogs (my vet gives t as a treat after shots) but in small quantities. I wouldn't give it daily by any means. I give some to my dogs about once a week, if that ... it is just a special once in a while treat.

Too much of it will likely cause loose stools. It is better to give the all natural kind though, it doesn't have as much salt or sugar which can be bad for dogs.

As far as the teeth, I'm not sure of peanut butter's effect on them. You should brush your dogs teeth at least weekly.

I know some people that opt for (natural)pumpkin butter as it is suppose to be better for them ... plus the pumpkin has been known to help keep stools firm.

It is not bad for your dog. Dogs love peanut butter. If you are concerned about his teeth, you can buy peanut flavored toothpaste for dogs. You can also give your dog peanut butter when he does something good. Use it as a reward. Not as a snack.

By the way, human only some human food is bad, peanut butter is ok. It is only bad to feed dogs alot of human food because after they taste it, they will not want to eat their dog food.

I breed AKC Shih Tzu's. While it is discouraged to give dogs human food, a small amount of Peanut Butter as a treat will not harm them.

No more than a teaspoon for a small dog, or tablespoon for a larger dog.

Petsmart sells a toy called a Kong in which you can place the peanut butter in as a reward for the dog as he chews the toy. They even have recipes for other treats on their website.

I would advise that you ask the dog's vet those questions, however, I searched the internet and I have seen many recipies and dog foods that contain peanut butter. Like my dog and yours, it seems that dogs do love it, and it seems to be a good source of protein and nutrients.

It does seem that most people just give it to the dog as a treat, so based on my internet review, I would say it if fine, but in moderation. Just give it to him on occasion, and just give him a fairly small amount at any one time.. .I'd say about a tablespoon at most at any one time and I would not give it to him more than once per day at most.

I give my dog a SMIDGE of peanut butter almost everyday in her Kong. It's not great - should be given in small amounts - I buy the lowfat peanut butter to make it healthier.

As far as teeth - peanut butter has sugar - so it's not great, but I make sure to take care of her teeth (dental food - Hills T/D as treats, raw bones, brushing...)

I would not give a dog large amounts of peanut butter. It has a lot of salt in it. If you want to give peanut butter give it in treat form. go to the pet store and get peanut flavored treats and give in moderation. treats can make the dog overweight so if you give treats reduce the amount of dog food you give. 1) small quantities. don't give it more than a Kong's worth a day.
2) no more than once a day.
3) dogs love peanut butter. but like for humans, it's not totally healthy for them either (because of oils and fats), but it's certainly ok to feed it to them.
4) i've never heard anything about a problem with teeth. it doesn't do anything to your teeth, does it? nope.

ps. don't listen to Master Mike.

peanut butter is a good snack for dogs! just remember, a little goes a long way, the best way to give it to him is when you empty the peanut butter jar, give it to your dog and let him finish it off

A spoon, 2 spoon or 3 spoon, just not half the jar!
Any day of the week is fine.
It's ok to feed dogs PB.
Just make sure you give him water, bone and check him teeth often.
