The spray water bottle is a miracle. After they got wet a couple of time all I had to do was pick it up and shake it and the sound would make them run for their lives. Cats dislike water anywhere other than in their waterdish.

You can use a variety of things. I've found that a spray bottle works best. When your cat is doing something that you don't like spray it with water and it will dart away. Making a loud clapping noise will startle and scare you cat away, so if you repeatedly do this, it will learn over time not to do what you don't want it to do. If it is going on things you do not want it to go on top of, lay aluminum foil over the surface. Cats hate aluminum foil. Make sure that you don't yell or hit your cat though, this could spark more bad behavior because cats are very emotional creatures.

My cat is especially needy, a lap cat, she hates not being in the room when others are present, this is what I do It will not work with an independent cat: I put mine in a bedroom by herself for 10 minutes (a time out) , then after 10 minutes I let her out and ignore her for 10 minutes. She bugs me the entire time then I pat her and let her on my lap after the time is up or for as long as I can stand her with those big blue eyes of hers and the mournful cry she dose when she knows she has been bad.

Snapping its nose IS CRUEL.

You're wasting your time. You are the problem. you have to adjust to your cat not the other way around. Do that or get a dog instead.

I've had cats for a long time and will not mistreat them. They have very long memories. I make a noise and stamp my feet. They know it's time to quit the bad behavior.

I keep a small jar of aspirin nest to my chair, and if the dummy does something wrong, I heave it at him. Don't get me wrong; I DO NOT aim to hit him, just scare him a bit....after awhile, when he thinks about doing it again, a shake of the bottle and he's outta here! Works Well.

Spray bottle is good. I also have an empty soda can with five or six pennies in it. Shake it at the cat when he/she is misbehaving.

You can get a spray bottle and spray it once in the face. If it likes water, then that's another story.

I yell at my cat in a mean voice and make a mean face, and he listens. Believe me they actually know what it means.

Spray bottles work too.
