Or is he more like a negligent parent, or worse still, an abusive parent?

Yeah, he's/she's/it's like a loving parent who every so often likes to kill millions upon millions of he/she/it's children with floods, storms, earthquakes, volcanoes, plagues, famines, and wars (well, ok, we actually do the waring, but usually it's because we're trying to get away from places with all the above disasters.)

The weird thing is, god seems to always get confused, and never punishes the actual sinners, only the innocents (maybe they just get in the way?), which somehow is supposed to teach the sinners to not sin I guess, but the way I see it, all god is doing is reinforcing the fact that you can sin and get away with it, right?

Now the way this is rationalized by the faithful, is that the innocents may die, but they go to instant heaven, whereas the sinners are damned, and their day is coming. Actually. this is kinda what my parents preached to me all my life... "one day, you'll get yours." I'm still waiting.

Personally, I think if you could survey the billions of people who've been washed away in floods, buried in molten lava, crushed under buildings, rotted away by disease, or eaten alive by locusts, I think they'd probably rather be alive, and I'm sure they'd rather be the children of Angelina Jolie then god almighty.

But god doesn't think this because, hey, he's teaching us lessons! Thank god! I know I do!

You should call 911 and report God for being a negligent parent. Go ahead, make that call.

There are no contradictions in the Holy Bible if it is properly understood through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and sincere study.
The devil is trying to destroy mankind in direct opposition to Jesus Christ who died that we through his Crucifixion, burial and Resurrection might be saved.

I would recommend that that you read the King James version of the Bible. It contains the answers to your questions.
God the Father knew you before you we born in eternity past and when you were formed in your mother womb. We are born with a Soul that will live for eternity. We must decide as a free will agent to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior or not.
Our decision determines whether we spend eternity in Heaven or Hell.
I Pray that you make the right decision.
Jesus Christ Loves You.
God Bless you is my prayer.
David

first of all, i'd opt to convey regret for the answerers the following who won't be able to examine... it replaced into obtrusive that you've been asking about perceptions and how they are created and what function your moms and dads play in that (not that you worship your moms and dads or some thing). I consider the answerer who indicated that the way you've been raised enables structure your perception, yet extremely the position you go from there is extremely as a lot as you. i believe that many people have an inner compass that's created with the help of their studies and that leads them in the route of their version of God, or for atheists, not-God. that's why people should be allowed to locate their own perceptions and notions of "reality".

I view him as a loving and forgiving parent. I get that from my own journey in life in addition to some of the parables that Jesus told.

In all my 96 years, I never heard such a question. God has always been good to me. Yeah I was shot in WW2, again in Korea an again in Vietnam. Yeah, I lost a leg to cancer and lost my hair. Yeah , my first two wives( one fighting off a hungry wolf while visiting Canada)died already and number three ran off with my pastor.
Yeah, Jesus has been my friend .

He is our Father in Heaven and how do you think he feels when most of his children do not love him and others act like he doesn't even exist i think he is rather sad i know i would be but he is delighted with his children who do love him and work so hard trying to lead the rest of his family back to him he loves us all that is why he has given us free will to choose what we want to do with our life's but he would like us all to come home to him.

He is much more than a loving parent. Hard as it is to believe he loves you more. He knew about you thousands of years before you were born. He has guardian angels watching over you. The bible says he is jealous of you. He died for you.
