The Bible promises that if we draw near to God, that He will draw near to us. If you express your heartfelt desire to Him to know that closeness again, He will answer. He's never left you, even though you say that you 'lost' your faith. He has just been patiently waiting for you to come back.
Psalms & John are both good places in the Bible to read. Especially Psalms since David expresses so many extremes of emotion. I like to read both Psalms & Isaiah when I'm sinking into a bit of a depression.
Also, if you are struggling with some depression, it would be great if you could get plugged into a good church. Fellowship with others is really important.

Your question requires more of an answer than can be honestly made here. Let me say this as one of the Christian Faith.
If you truly are of the Christian Faith then you did not lose your Faith...you just garbeled up the communication to God. That can indeed be fixed. The first answer of course is prayer... But you know more is needed by you..
If you were not of true Faith then you will need to come to God in The Way He proscribes and get it done right...This is not a put down and I can not know what your Faith status was or is... But God can and dose... so you need to talk to Him.
I invite you to visit my website.... even if you are just trying to reestablish clear communications it might help you to think on yourFaith and help to establish a better communication through prayer... my site is more for the not-yet-believer... but if you have been out of touch so-to-speak then it might have something to offer you... here is the link.

Yes you most certainly will benefit by having God in your life.
I have been through the most devastating of experiences in my life, one being the loss of my youngest child aged 12. Five years before this time, I like you, lost my faith and went away from God.
I decided just a short while before my son's accident, that my life was so empty and meaningless without God, and decided to persue the Lord once again.
That was over eight years ago now, and although I have grieved for my son, which is only right, I have found God to be so so faithful in every way.
Choose to do the right thing, even when you don't feel like it and the Lord will honour you.
Come to Him now, seeking forgiveness, and asking Him to help You and strengthen You. He will do just that!

You are to be commended for your introspection and how your life has been and how it could be with God back in you life. Many people will say to you that "you must get with the program or you'll go to hell" Others will ridicule you for your attempt to re-establish you faith in God.
May I humbly suggest that you contact one of Jehovah's Witnesses for a free Bible study. If you do not know one go to
go to this link and request one. https://watch002.securesites.net/contact/submit.htm
When you do see a Witness ask for the book "Draw Close to Jehovah". You will find this book very encouraging.
In the mean time go to the following links and enjoy the articles. They will help you see that God really has a plan to benefit all of mankind, including you.

"What Does God Require of Us?"

At the bottom right of each page there are little triangles. These will take you back to the top of the page, return you to the previous page or take you to the next page of the article you are in.
I am sure you will find these articles very enjoyable reading and helpful too.

Chloe.
As I am writing this, God is standing right next to you, whispering of His endless love for you. He wants more from you than a church relationship. He wants you to be His child. He wants you to realize that you will never find true and lasting happiness without Him. It is time, and you know this, that you surrendered your heart and mind to Him. When you do, He will fill you with His Spirit, and you will be reborn as a new and spiritual creature, filled with the thoughts, and the Will, of God. There is no higher calling than to become a child of the Most High. If you choose to be His, you will find lasting peace, happiness, and love. I know these things are true, because I once stood where you are. I chose to enter His Kingdom, and I will dwell in the house of God forever. There is no way, I would ever go back.

You need to find a church family that will build you up and help you in your quest to get closer to God. Following God doesn't mean that daisies spring up under you feet ever step you take, It means that through your walk with him, you understand that there is a purpose and you can handle all things though him. You come to understand. It helps you focus not so much on yourself. If you are living to glorify God, how can you be depressed? (Of course if you feel that you are clinically depressed, you need to see you MD. Clinical depression is a disease. Sometimes you just can't pull yourself up by the boot straps and go on.) You have a lot of thinking to do.

Of course noone should make fun of you, but you dont need god to be happy, if you lost your faityh, belive me when I say you can be happy without god, first, if you are in a depression i would reccomend you talk to your loving ones about it, its causes and its solutions, if that doesnt work try therapy, first a psycologist, do not and i stressDO NOT go to a psyquiatrist first, if you need one the psychologist will reccomend you a good one, most of them just want to sell you meds
look for hlp, you can find some here if you state the root of your depression here, but i'd reccomend going to an specialist better

Pray.
And be specific. You don't need to be formal and there's nothing wrong with expressing disappointment or anythign else. God knows about it anyway, but until you place it in God's hands, nothing will get done.
Example, I've been cutting grass before and felt a drop of rain and just said "God, please just hold this rain off long enough for me to get done.".....it works. but you have to be specific. If you pray for rain, sure, no problem, but you might get a thunderstorm or a flood. When you really wanted a good 2 to 3 day slow soaking in the ground rain.

I rededicated my life to God six years ago and my life is better now than it's ever been... but I still battle depression. The joy I find in knowing that I have a Savior and He loves me doesn't always overcome the depression I feel when I struggle with things of this world. But I find the strength to overcome the depression by remembering that I am not of this world anymore and then I focus on things above. (Colossians 3:2)
If you want to get closer to God then just tell Him. The great things about prayer is that God doesn't expect it to be all "thee" "thou" and "thy" but just a conversation with the One who loves you very, very much.
God bless you!

There are no contradictions in the Holy Bible if it is properly understood through the guidance of the Holy Spirit and sincere study.
The devil is trying to destroy mankind in direct opposition to Jesus Christ who died that we through his Crucifixion, burial and Resurrection might be saved.
I would recommend that that you read the King James version of the Bible. It contains the answers to your questions.
God the Father knew you before you we born in eternity past and when you were formed in your mother womb. We are born with a Soul that will live for eternity. We must decide as a free will agent to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior or not.
Our decision determines whether we spend eternity in Heaven or Hell.
I Pray that you make the right decision.
Jesus Christ Loves You.
God Bless you is my prayer.
David
