Mine is either an older Shiraz preferably from australia or a chardonnay called Le Rime 2004 by Banfi vineyards... and whenever eating Italian, I always get the house Chianti.

Used to be a big fan of Yellowtail Shiraz until I tried JackaRoo Shiraz and Big Red or Wishing Tree Shiraz. I think Wishing Tree is some of the best and very reasonable at about $15/bottle.

For white, I would have to go with Cline's Pinot Gris and Chardonnay blend.

I'm with you on the Chianti...or a good Sangiovese. Goes great with red sauces and pasta.

For Merlot.....and I don't typically like Merlot....I opt for Barefoot. Good gosh, this stuff is CHEAP, but it is SO good.

Lastly, one of my favorite Zinfandels would be Rancho Zabaco's Sonoma Heritage. Good stuff.

I've recently discovered Meursault for a buttery white, and I tend to go for Margaux or Rioja for red. to be honest I'm a bit bored of Australian stuff now, and I'm trying to get into French reds a bit more.

Once had a nice Californian Merlot called Canyon Road which was only about six pounds. Also a nice South African Shiraz called Writer's block - about twenty quid, very pleasant figs and cream smell/taste.

Chateau St. Michelle Riesling is always great if you're looking for a dessert wine. It's my favorite. Also the Australian Riesling is good too.

Depends on the food, mood your in and time of day I would think. My husband and I love a white Zinfandel with lots of ice on a hot day.
