Yes - it depends on the child. Some of us who teach in the inner city (where ther is poverty, high crime, etc.) sometimes need to befriend children who have NOTHING at home. It is very important for an adult to instill values in a child's life and to make them feel like they count. Students living on the street, or in situations that are dangerous benefit from the influence of a dedicated teacher!

It will all depend on how far the friendship goes. If you can keep it at a presentable friendship it ok and fine. But dont get to far then you start having feelings for that student. And dont pass that student just because they are your friend let them learn on thier own. OK?

Sure! Why not?

When I was at school, my classmates and I had great teachers and all of them became our friends. It was really cool cause we could count on them always! And they very wise to separate friendship with duty. So they were great teachers too!

Today, 10 years later, we're still friends. And much better cause they're not our teachers anymore!!

The students will someday come back to visit teachers, make sure the teacher searches, the ramifications, and laws in the area.
It can be a good thing but also a very dangerous situation.
be alert.

I think teachers could potentially be wonderful mentors who teach kids far more about their chosen academic field and about life than they do presently. Unfortunately, those relationships are frowned upon, and so very few children are allowed to be exposed to that sort of intellectually stimulating relationship that could prove so beneficial.
