I just picked up a old Bell And Howell Autoload projector at a rummage sale for 3 bucks. I dont know much about these things, but all the functions seem to work. Is the screen suppose to show polka dots until you focus it?

polka dots may be a symptom of a bad bulb. Take the bulb out and see if there are burn spots or melted spots on it. Replace it if it shows these symptoms.

Also check the focusing lens. there could be melted bits or even just dirt and munge on it. Clean it with a soft cloth and good cleaner.

THE POLKA DOTS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PROJECTER IT CAN BE THE MOVIE YOUR WATCHING OR A BAD LIGHT BULB. LITTLE THINGS LIKE TAHT CAN MAKE A BIG PROBLEM. AND YES THE MOVIE HAS TO BE FOCUSED RIGHT FOR A CLEAN PICTURE.

We had one a long long time ago, but I don't remember seeing dots ever.
