I don't know about better, but I was raised by my single mom for some time and I would like to think that I turned out fine. I think kids are very impressionable and everyone around them can affect how they grow up...single mother or not. It is all about character by association. Although I was very rebellious as a kid, during my high school years it did dawn on me all the sacrafices that my mom endured and eventually it made me appreciate a lot of things in life.

Better than what? Being raised by single dad, both parents, grandma, no one, what? I believe that the best way to grow is in a kind and loving environment from BOTH parents, where respect, discipline, and love are the focus. A single mom can do a good job if she has to, and it's probably better to do it by yourself that fighting all the time with someone who doesn't love or respect you, but really we come from 2 people for a reason, and the BEST is to get the most out of each of them.

That is not thhe ideal formula. Kids need both male and female role models, as well as watching a relationship between adults. However, if you can't supply that, or if either mom or dad are abusive, one of them alone can still do a very good job (not just the single mom). It would be advisable to rely a bit on extended family.

I too have seen really good kids raised by just a mom. But, I would have to say no, to them being better persons.

It all depends on the mom. There are horrible single moms. Some of my friends have single moms and they're pretty bad. I have both parents and I think I'm a pretty good kid. I don't drink, smoke, hang out and have good grades in school.

In my experience sons do better than daughters when raised by a single mother. Daughters end up desperate for male attention and are more likely to get pregnant young, etc.

I think that kids have a better chance of being socially okay, if they are raised by one single parent, who is loving, attentive and can provide for the child, as opposed to a household that has two parents who are incapable of properly caring for their child.
