It's like having a crooked femur or ankle bone, isn't it? Of all parts of the body, why is this one allowed to stray from the blueprint?

I'll agree with vankedileri. My dad was also a dentist and he started practice in 1940. He said that he watched teeth get more and more crooked as the years went by. By this, I mean more and more children had crooked teeth. He said that it was due to intermarriage. This does not even mean interracial marriages, but something as simple as someone from England marrying someone from France. If you think about typical ethnic characteristics, you can come up with a picture in your mind for almost every country or region of the world. Men and women actually looked a lot alike in those regions a couple hundred years ago. There was a typical Scandinavian look or Eastern European look, and so on. When you have your dad's bones and your mom's teeth, they just might not match up very well. This is one possible explanation for why people have crooked teeth and it makes sense to me.

The reason is because you may have a parent with a large jaw and the other with small teeth, or vise versa, or you can have more teeth(supernumerary) then you should. It is sorda the same concept as a person with a large frame and small hands, or a person with a little frame and a long torso, you get little piece from each parent.......I wore braces b/c of jacked up teeth, my husband has crowns on front b/c of jacked up teeth(and thin enamel in front) and my son has all of his permanent teeth and they are all perfectly straight, and my daughter who has all primary teeth has some funky lookin teeth...........

According to Dr. John R. Christopher, master herbalist and naturopathic doctor..it is from lack of calcium in the mother when she is carring the child that makes that child have crooked teeth...Lack of calcium also makes painful teething for children.

Some people do have crooked bones. My husbands fingers are crooked. Our teeth are crooked - becasue they were meant to chew harder non processes food - so we ruined them because we suck... and because genetics is mean and cruel.

My teeth are perfect, luckily, nice white and straight from years of braces. I recommend them to anyone who doesn't like their teeth.
