"fat chance" may refer to the same situation as "slim chance", but the emphasis and tone of voice is different.

Like related expressions ("fat lot of good it will do") "fat chance" is almost certainly SARCASTIC, said in a tone of voice that indicates one means the exact opposite.

But note that even though each expression refers to the same 'basic facts', they are NOT exactly the same (and so cannot be exchanged) because the sarcastic "fat chance" includes an ATTITUDE that's not present in "slim chance".

As for "I could care less" -- this is debated. Some think it is simply a silly mistake. Others suggest it is another case of sarcasm. I'm not completely convinced of this, but it seems very possible.

honestly it's just the connotation.

A slim chance has a little better connotation than a fat chance. For instance - you could use "a slim chance" when talking about someone's ability to do something, but "a fat chance" when talking about someone's likelihood of getting something right. And the same thing applies to I could care less versus I couldn't care less.

Absolutely nothing. It's made to make you think though of how insincerely and inconsiderate people can be so clever and sly. Where they think of ways to confuse you into thinking one way is nice and the other is not nice when in reality both ways are not nice. If you think about it, it's like the fox trying to tell the crow that he has a beautiful singing voice when in reality he just wants the cheese. Don't you hate that. Some people are always trying to get over on others...one way or another. Take care.

I think when people say it, they basically mean the same thing. Like when People say something like, "Same Difference"... that's almost an oxymoron.
