You actually receive more by giving things away, i.e. your time, your love, your friendship, your wealth, etc. When you give something freely, you receive ten-fold in return.

I believe it refers to what the giver gets when he gives. Because you always get something in return for giving, whether it's the grace of God or just the good feeling you get inside when you can help someone out.

It relates to the saying "The good guy always comes in last, but is always treated as if he came in first". People feel attached to those that put others before themselves.
It also supports the "Heaven on Earth" collective model. Imagine if everyone cared more about one another than themselves. This is a concept that all humanity is drawn towards.

Matthew 10:8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

It could be similar to "better to give..."
Perhaps the satisfaction in giving is just what people want.
and only what they want

it's like this...the Bible says "For anyone who keeps his life for himself shall lose it; and anyone who loses his life for Me shall find it again" so it's like this....you keep things that are needed by others...then you shallmiss out on giving....but if you sacrifice for another...you will be blessed greatly
