London Bridge is still in London- there have just been a number of updated bridges due to ever changing modern needs. The most recent bridge was opened in 1973. The bridge that is in Arizona is the previous version of the bridge that was sold to an American in 1968. The bridge had been widened to accommodate more traffic in and out of downtown London and the structure could not withstand the stress. The bridge was sinking at a rate of one inch per year, thus they needed a replacement. When the bridge went up for sell it was bought by an American. So, I guess the bridge in Arizona should be called the "old" London Bridge.

From what I understand the London Bridge in Arizona is the unique London bridge from London, which replaced into bought in 1968 with the help of an american. It replaced into then shipped over to u . s . of america and rebuilt. a sparkling bridge in London replaced into outfitted from 1967 to 1972 and is likewise called London Bridge. So truly there are 2 bridges with an same call. do not question me why although! this can answer your question =]

Yes. I walked over it last week!

But yes, a previous incarnation of the bridge was bought by US businessman Robert McCulloch in 1968 and taken to Lake Havasu in the US.

It's said that he believed he was buying Tower Bridge (the beautiful two-level bridge next to the Tower of London that you frequently see in London postcards), but didn't know it's name. This is the source of much amusement amongst Londoners but McCulloch probably had the last laugh as it is now apparently Arizona's No.2 tourist attraction (after the Grand Canyon).
