You need actual DVD playing software, which should have came with the DVD player. If not, here's a feee one. The region is something you can set once you install the software. Basically it keeps DVD's from being watched in all but certain areas. For example Region 1 is usually North America (Canada, US, Mexico) and you can only watch DVD's with this code without changing the settings in your software. Even then, most only let you change your region only a handful of times, though there are always ways around that. Hope it helps.

Realplayer does not let you play DVD's. The format they're saved as is not compatible with Quicktime, Windows Media Player, or Realplayer. So you'll need to buy or download DVD playing software. Here is a link to a search I did on download.com: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=DVD%20player&tag=srch
Go there, pick out the software most appealing to you, install, and you should be able to play your DVD. Somewhere in your settings you should be able to change your DVD region so that you can play the DVD, but be careful, as you can only change the region a certain number of times before it becomes unchangable.

A totally free and very efficient player is called Video LAN. It's available for download at the below site. Download and install it, and then try your DVD in the pc's DVD drive. Good luck.
