People who fail to attend a court hearing are normally issued with a warrant of arrest to that court.
It makes NO difference if that court is 1mile or 500 miles away.
As a tax payer it is you that helps towards the cost.
Should they appear at the nearest court?

No, there are diverse rules in quite a lot each county interior the U. S.. And tax payers ought to foot the bill for each human being of those jails in those counties. So is it honest to value county X to carry a prisoner that commited a criminal offense in county Z? there is the cost to feed, dress, and grant clinical seriices now to not instruct the final public of the cost: detention. that is this style of cost saving degree in interior sight jails we easily employ mattress area out to different jurisdictions that favor the more suitable area. We value$60 an afternoon, some in quite populated aspects, value more suitable than $one hundred. This money isn't 'income', it is going interior the final operating fund and decreases the quantity of taxpayer money needed to run the penal complicated interior the first position. So, if we made $one hundred,000 promoting beds to a distinct county, or organization, we may carry at the same time $one hundred,000 a lot less from the taxpayers throughout the time of that economic 3 hundred and sixty 5 days. i recognize of a few jails that are positioned interior the rustic and lately outfitted, which have ninety% of their beds rented out. ninety%!, it really is thousands of thousands of money a three hundred and sixty 5 days; the sturdy project for them, is that it would not value the taxpayers of their county any money to operate the penal complicated. yet lower back to the question reachable: may you favor a baby molester, or a assassin doing his/her time (after violating the crimes on your community) in a miles off penal complicated? Do the time the position you do the crime. value ought to not come into question when we take care of proper justice. Ever.

How far the agency holding the warrant will go to get that person depends on the extradition limits of the warrant. A lot of felonies are nationwide extradition--they'll go anywhere in the country to pick up that person. I have no idea how many miles are travelled in a year for extradition, but I know that my local sheriff's office employs a full-time person whose only job is extradition. That's a lot of people with a lot of warrants. Your idea of having people appear at the nearest court is impractical. Only the court where the crime was committed has jurisdiction.

It all has to do with that jurisdiction thing. Plus, certain states may have less or more severe penalties for a crime - so it becomes, too, a matter of "correct" justice.

I do think they should still be transported for the above reasons.

Not necessarily. Why should my court be bogged by another. Further more the court closest to you may not be the type of court that could hear your case. The cost isn't that much to raise my concerns.

A lot of the time crimes are committed in several states by one individual. If he is the custody of say, the police in Illinois and is wanted for murder in Washington state, would you rather he be taken form Ill., by Ill. police or would you rather he be put in the custody of his relatives to see that he makes it to Washington to stand trial? In the interval he gets away and kills your husband, wife, or child. Then would you feel different about how much it costs to pay for him to travel? I think not.

As tax payers we pay for a lot of things that could be argued as unnecessary or unwarranted or even frivolous; lets just face it, we pay to live the lives we lead.
