Do we really need caller ID?

After having caller ID for 6 years, the answer is no, you don't need it, but it is difficult to imagine not having it.

What I think is egregious is that phone companies charge for caller ID ($3-$7 a month) and it is given away with cell phones. Caller ID has already paid for itself many times over. I think the PUC should legislate that caller ID must be provided to all customers free of charge and do away with this charge that really costs nothing to operate in the grand scheme of things.

One way to avoid commercial phone calls if you don't have Caller ID is to sign up for the US Government Do Not Call Registry. Enter your phone number and telemarketers are required by law to stop calling you. Sweet no?

Yes...I think Caller Id is a great thing to have. If I see who's calling and it's family or someone I want to talk to...than that really helps, especially with all the telemarket sale people out there! Uck

Yeah, why wouldn't we? Apart from being able to recognize telemarketers and not answer their calls, we can also see who called while we were gone if we don't have an answering machine or the caller chooses not to leave a message.
