No.
After the American Civil War many of the Generals of Washington believed they could defeat the American Indian with the same strategies. They were absolutely wrong. That is when the US Calvary begin recruiting Buffalo Hunters as Scouts, Frontiesmen as Indian Fighters, and those Native Americans who were willing to communicate for the US Army.
I believe we must fight terrorism with terrorism.
Get a couple of B-52s with a fleet of Chevy Trucks fully loaded with GPS. Add some 12-gauge shoutguns and recruit those diehard Rednecks who are will to give the ultimate for this great country.
Let them have a barrel of that 150 year old Jack Daniel and the finest steaks Texas have produced. I promise you they will solve the what's ailing the United States of America.

Terrorists think that they are fighting for a cause. By finding out what they want war can be avoided. Governments today are so self centred that they never look into what groups want but keep pushing their agendas onto the people. This angers some people who for years have had their wishes set aside so that the newly elected government can put forth their ideas. Sooner or later depending upon the stupidity of the government ideas the ordinary citizen gets pissed and becomes a rebel against the ideas of the government. We now label these rebels as terrorists. In the days of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson they called these people freedom fighters or rebels or revolutionists. We now call them heroes because they fought for a noble cause but England would have at the time called them terrorists if that term existed at that time. So can terrorists be fought with warfare, look at the American Revolution and the answer is YES!

simply put no. i agree with "paul l" that governments today tend to push their own agendas rather than attempting to solve the problem at hand. though "paul l" i have to say if george washington and thomas jefferson were the rebels, and england was the country they were rebelling against, then your point that warfare can stop terrorists falls short. england would have been the one fighting the terrorists, and as we all know england lost that battle. so englands attempt to combat "terrorists" with warfare failed as well.
as far as the individuals we consider "terrorists" today, the reason warfare cannot stop terrorism is because these individuals hold nothing sacred, and truthfully have nothing to lose. most especially with today's islamic extremist "terrorist groups" warfare will only work if we are willing to kill, or imprison each and every individual whom we assume to be a terrorist, this is not only UNACCEPTABLE but next to impossible. the terrorists we are fighting today do not fear violence, it simple strengthens their resolve. so if warfare is our only solution, you can count on the continued battle against terrorism, from now until the end of eternity.

I wish it were a goal that achievable, but I compare terrorism to local crime. How long have cities been fighting just to 'reduce' crime, let alone eliminate it. Forever. Each year, crime goes up or down, but only by small percentage points. Terrorism is crime at an international level. I don't see how it's possible to choose a battle ground like Iraq (or any other country for that matter) and expect that we're going to get rid of (international terrorist) crime all around the globe, including on our own soil. For some reason we talk of terrorists as an identifiable group that is different than the other crime we've known since the beginning of time. I don't think traditional warfare will do the job. But our leaders do. And they have enough of a following to urge the war to continue and even expand.

Not totally, but it sure beats asking for negotiations and having another bus, ship or shopping center blown up as an answer over and over again.

No but we can reduce the amount of countries willing to support them financially and by giving them a place to hide and train.
