How can I protect the rest of them when the mother insists on keeping them under our bed without a blanket. When I put one under there for her/them, she moves them and refuses the use of any blanket, bed, etc. How can I protect the other ones from dying (there are now 3 left). This is her first, and last, litter (she will be spayed once the babies are weaned). My fiance says to make her a bed out of a box, but I think that she wo't use it and will still keep the babies under the bed where it is colder than anywhere else.

The one that died is one that she had been ignoring off and on for the past 2 weeks that it had been alive. If I had known that the kitten was that bad off, I would have gotten some milk, a bottle, etc, and fed it myself. But, just when I thought she was going to ignore it completely, she would take care of it again. My fiance says that since it is her first litter, it is to be expected to lose one, maybe two of them. Is this normal?

I found a box big enough for the babies to walk around a little bit and for the mom to stretch out to nurse and sleep in. I cut a hole in it and taped up the top and bottom, put in a couple of semi thick towels, put it in a corner, then put the babies in it. Now the mom goes and looks in the box, meows a lot, and stays on our bed off and on. She will, more than likely, get used to the box. She never has done well with change, but she usually gets used to it in time,.At least I know that the babies are safer, warmer, and more comfortable. I wouldn't even use the fan in our bedroom because the babies could crawl out from under the bed! They can't crawl out of this box, yet, so they are safer. Thanks for all the help everyone!

Another one of the kittens died this morning--my favorite one!! She had been gasping for air last night. My fiance figures that she had a lung problem that didn't show up when the vet saw them at 8 days old. The last two are thriving quite well--even the runt has become the biggest one!! I am just hoping and praying that we don't lose anymore. I can hardly handle the fact that we lost 2 of them in 3-4 days; I can only imagine what the momma kitty is going thru. She was taking good care of this one that died today, and was very concerned that it wasn't doing well. She and the other 2 stayed with her until this one died. My fiance found all of them near her under our bed!!

I am very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is. If she ignored it, then there was something wrong with it and she knew it was going to die. I found a stray cat that was pregnant and after the kittens were born she ignored one of them, so I took care of it. When it was four weeks old I took it to the vet for a check up and we found that it had a heart problem that it was slowly dieing from. The mother new what was wrong with it and that is why she ignored it.

I think that happens, especially if the mother cat is young. my sisters cat had a similar experience she was only 7-8 mopnths when she got pregnant and had a litter of 3, 1 was born still born and another one died the next day. she had a very hard time taking care of the other one but my sister just kept a VERY close eye and made sure she fed it. If the momma cat keeps putting the cats under the bed then put blankets or towels under your bed so that they are a little better protected and keep that area super clean. Good luck and dont forget to see a vet soon! the mom and babies need to be checked out and get their shots.

My condolences. you will be so upset via such an experience. except you get an post-mortem finished you could no longer understand for beneficial, yet while that they had respiratory problems that's available that they had a respiratory an infection. How is the mummy doing? If she looks unconcerned that's available that they have got been in some way bodily defective and he or she sensed it and knew they does not stay. Is she nevertheless lactating? if so, take her to the vet as she ought to get abcesses if she keeps to make milk yet has no kittens to grant it to. additionally, if she is grieving the lack of ability of her infants, you ought to enquire at your vet's or community animal rescue agency to make certain despite if all people has orphaned kittens who choose nursing. Cats are very emotional creatures and would go through exceedingly while they lose a family participants member or pussycat chum.

I am sorry about the kitten, it is hard to lose a little one.

Mama dogs & cats know when there is a problem with a baby & they will ignore it and push it away. So, this isn't your fault.

As to the blanket issue, I would say leave the babies alone. You will stress the mama cat out more by continuing your assistance.

watch the mother and her kittens closely, if she ignores or does not feed a specific kitten, help it, one thing you can do is if the cat does not feed one of her kittens hold her down, she may not like it, but it sure helps, since the mother insists on keeping them under the bed, lock her in one room when she goes to sleep, and put them in a different location with a humanely heated blanket, then if she still insists on putting them under the bed with no heat, keep on doing what i just told u, the mother obviously is not paying attention well enough, if it does not work, ask a vet.

I worked for the animal shelter. And, what the mother cat is doing sadly to say is normal. she knew some thing was wrong with one of her kitten. And, she won't feed it. Or some times the mother cat just don't want to be bothered by her kittens. Its several things here. Or maybe she don't know how to take care of them. I seen some mommy cats that lay's on top of her babies. I would get up set. What you need to do is take the babies away from her. And, feed them your self. they have special milk you can by. Kittens have 50/50 chance of surving. Take the babies away from the mother and care for them your self. Good Luck

It's normal if the kitten is defective. But that is complicated to go into depth about. But a BOX is one of the best ways to help out. Please, why don't you do something instead of waiting for your fiance to do nothing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help out . It's better than doing nothing. CALL: VET IMMEDIATELY!!!!
