To my knowledge the hippa laws are mostly for privacy. I have had cancer. I would have to wait 18 months to get on another plan. That is pretty much the least amount of time. I do believe other things would be covered, just not the cancer. The privacy act covers no one being able to give out any info. on you unless you sign a consent form. This is my understanding,

No, HIPPA is just for the privancy of the patient.
