A common misconception. Big Ben is the name for the bell that strikes every hour. The tower is known simply as the Clock Tower. Sometimes you might hear it being called the clock tower of St. Stephen, but this is unofficial. It has four faces, a minute hand and hour hand on each one. 2 times 4 equals eight.
