I do not believe that sexuality is innate. We are not born homo sexual. homosexuality is a choice conditioned by a person's experiences. There is NO scientific evidence for a so called "gay gene". I do believe in a moral code which excludes a gay lifestyle. I also believe in repentance and forgiveness. I also believe one should love the sinner but hate the sin. Sorry if that offends athesists or agnostics.

Both. Research can't find the physical cause for lesbians yet, but they have the cause for a portion of the gay men. If a woman gets pregnant with a boy, the male hormones often trigger a defense response in her body. Her body may see the boy as an invader, so launches some sort of counterattack. This gets stronger with each addtional boy. So the youngest boy in a family with alot of boys is more likely to be the homosexual than the oldest boy. However, most youngest brothers aren't gay, and many oldest brothers are. This is just one reason.
First sexual experience(s) imprint a young person for life. I have met many gay people who had negative first experiences at too young of an age with a same-sexed older person. Then they get into drugs, low self esteem, etc and just do what their imprinting tells them to.
There is no one answer. There are alot of different types of gays and just as many reasons for it.

Are homosexuals "born" that way? Much attention has been given to genetic studies. Among homosexual males and females who have identical twins, only about half of their twins are likewise homosexual. Since monozygotic [identical] twins are genetic duplicates, it seemed logical to conclude that some mysterious gene caused the deviation. However, note that half the twin siblings were not homosexual. If this trait were really genetically programmed, would not all the twins have it? True, genes and hormones may play some role. Even so, Scientific American reported the findings of some that the evidence “strongly suggests that environment contributes significantly to sexual orientation.

There is also the idea of environment. If the father didn't provide a good masculine role model...did the mother want a girl, did she unwittingly aggravate the situation by disparaging her husband or by being overly possessive of her son?

Who knows, those kinds of things don't fit in every circumstance, but what I found very INTERESTING is, significant numbers of homosexuals are victims of childhood MOLESTATION. Such molestation can produce lasting physical and emotional damage. For some it may create what one writer called a “distorted sexual identity.” This evidently occurred in ancient Sodom, where young boys manifested a voracious appetite for perverted relations. (Genesis 19:4, 5) Clearly, they were a product of adult exploitation.

No one is born a homosexual! No one is born a thief! No one is born a murderer! No one is born a drunkard!

It's a psychological and social conditioning rather than a choice. A lot of us might become prostitutes if the conditions encourage it. I believe most people today would never have considered being gay if today's society was not so accepting. All the organs of the human body are for different purposes.

What would happen if some people say they feel they were born dogs and should be allowed to live and act like dogs? Should we accept serial thieves, murderers, rapists, etc., because they were born so?

A few scientific discoveries have been made on this subject, however they can not tell if these findings were caused or they were born with them.

In my opinion the biggest find was when they did a study on a few gay male cadaviors. The study showed that thier brains were closer to that of a female then it was to a male. This would not be a big find if it was 5 or 6 out of 12, however all of the cadaviors shown this.

See in my opinion people are born a certain way. Society and such can't groom these things out, however it can trick you. In other words I believe you are born Athiest, homosexual, ect ect. Then society can trick you into not being what you truely are.

No, I'm not saying being born these ways are bad or anything like that. All I'm saying is that we are born who we are and society can "reshape" us, however it can not change us.

Are heterosexuals "born" or are they made by conditioning? same thing..

Sexuality is not a choice it is partly genetic, partly due to the hormonal environment within the mothers womb and partly familial & societal infuences as well as a myriad other influences nobody could ever unravel and none of which can be chosen.

Homosexuality is a normal human variation like height or IQ. and guess what it isn't criminal, it doesn't hurt anyone and gives many people a great deal of happiness.

Have a nice day!

I wouldn't support the concept of homosexuality being genetic, as the rule of passing on genetic code would seem to be violated (i.e. they often do not produce biological children, yet the population seems to remain relatively stable).

I heard a study recently claiming higher homosexuality rates in males born with an older brother ... increasing as the number of older males in the family unit increases.

Perhaps homosexuality is in part a hereditary function of the species as a means of lowering the number of competing males.

And pehaps some of it is due to chemical/physiological imbalances within the mother during gestation ... certainly if a child who is genetically female can be born with a penis (yes, this has happened) then there is some degree for variance in other areas.

Homosexuality is not genetic nor always behavioural.
There is a behavioural component to be sure, but the fact is that hormonal conditions within the womb can retard the development of full maleness. Maternal stress is one such important factor.
There is a "window" of sexual development between six and twelve weeks (I believe) that sets the agenda for the rest of life. Even if the (male) child does not become a fully-fledged homosexual there will always be a disposition towards it.
Others who are not such predisposed homosexuals can nonetheless turn to it as a way of cheap sex, because of a lack of females, because they enjoy predatory behaviour etc etc.
So the answer is there is no "straight" answer, ha ha ha.

Being a homosexual myself I would like to say to all the members who have left bigoted comments to grow up!

I certainly did not choose to be this way! I did not wake up one morning and think oh I think I want to be a homosexual?? Get real!

Sigmund Freud even suggested that 75% of people are actually at some time sexually attracted to the same sex, however, this did not mean they were homosexual!

We are definitely born!

In response to Renee's answer also I am a twin and we are the youngest in a large family and we are both homosexual!!

In response to n9wff not all peadophile's are homosexuals some are actually the childrens mothers????

As a homosexual myself. I can definitely tell you that we are not conditoned to be gay. I've known I was gay (although I denied it for a looong time) since I was a kid. It's like a straight person just knows he's straight, so it is with us. I don't think anybody would choose to be gay. It's not easy, it's not even gay (fun). People ridicule you, make fun of you, think you're a freak etc. If I could change my sexual orientation, I would but since I'm born gay, I try to make the most of what I am. That's the key to happiness. =) No life is perfect but we can make it work.

I think homosexuality is caused by a combination of factors, including genetic predisposition (but not the "gay gene" theory), hormonal influences, and childhood experiences. I don't think people are born gay, and I don't think people choose to be gay either.

Even IF people were born gay, which I do not believe to be the case, we are all responsible for controlling our actions. I can't imagine the struggle gay and lesbian people go through.I think they are called to not act on their desires, and to seek help to try and be healed, or lead a celibate lifestyle.
