People, dogs and cats can get Lyme disease, however, people cannot get the disease from their pets.

In cats, symptoms suggestive of Lyme disease are:

painful or stiff muscles and joints
fatigue
fever
loss of appetite
possibly sudden collapse

I can't believe how much misinformation is out there about Lyme. Of course cats can get Lyme if they are bitten by an infected tick. Why does the BF think cat's are immune? If they were immune they would have cats in labs trying to figure out how they are immune so they could help people with Lyme. But you don't hear about that happening do you?Because its not true. No mammal is immune to Lyme.

I have Lyme disease. I know of a 5 month old kitten that died from complications of Lyme when the infection went to her heart. I also know of dogs, a horse and a mule that died from Lyme.

The other poster doesn't know what he/she is talking about. Pets can transfer Lyme to their owners if they bite the owner while infected. A LOT of people also get Lyme because a tick that was hiding in their dog or cat's ear climbs off in search of a new host. Many times this happens when humans allow pets to sleep in their bed and the tick will find the human a much better host. If you let your pets outside in areas that are tick infested then you shouldn't allow them in the house for your own safety. This comes from someone who has been battling Lyme 17 years, 16 yrs of which I was misdiagnosed.

Believe me you don't want Lyme and you don't want to watch an animal suffer with it either. Tell your sister to take the kitty to the vet and request a test and checkup and dump the idiot BF.

YES. Lyme disease from a tick bite almost always accompanied by a distinct red "ring" with the bite in the center. I am told it is rare to not have this unless the tick did not carry lime disease. However it is very wise to get the cat tested.. Lyme disease can be VERY painful for the animal, easily treated in its early stages, please don't wait!
