I would call the vet. Momma cat could have a breech or stillborn kitten that she needs help delivering. Panting in cats isn't normal at any time. Means something is wrong. As far as the hot apartment you need to keep it cool because of the kittens, Air that is too warm can cause breathing difficulties in babies. Can you get a small window air conditioner for your apt? Walmart has some for under $100.
Just a tip with Momma Cats - some are so dedicated they won't leave the kittens even to eat or use litter box. When our cat had her first litter I would hold a dish of food right in front of her so she could eat without standing up. Then offered her water the same way. Then when the kittens were not nursing I would pick her up and put her in the litter box. Had to do this for 3-4 days before Momma cat would get up on her own. Sometimes they are just overly worried about their kittens and don't want to leave them for a second. Don't be trying to hold or pet the kittens for the first 3 weeks because that further worries the Momma and she may try to hide them somewhere away from humans.

Did she eat what came out? All the birth and stuff? They have to eat that because they'll get very hungry and tired. Or maybe she just needs some rest, or her contractions were pretty heavy and all the pushing made her very very exhausted. Maybe you could look it up on a page about cats giving birth, there might be something about heavily breathing aand panting. And you can always call a vet. Good luck :) And enjoy those kittens, they're lots of fun.

Its possible there could be another kitten. they can go 12 hours with the last to be born. It could possibly be stuck. Cats dont pant when they are hot like dogs do. Best to call a vet for advice.

If she is panting, respiratory heavy and shaking, even somewhat, something is quite incorrect. If she is executed whelping she might want to be drained and slumbering. particularly, she is appearing like she is protecting a pup or more desirable than one; or a placenta. you do not say what colour discharge she has yet that could be an illustration of probability too. call the vet and tell him what is going on. the following day would properly be too previous due for her and the domestic dogs. Her milk can bypass undesirable if she has a systemic an infection from a retained pup or placenta.

Only because this is her first litter, I'd be a little worried. If its too hot in the apartment or is there another kitten up there.

If she is nursing her kittens and caring for them there may not be another one in there. Check her temp, offer water and give her more feed enrich it with powdered milk.. Also put a fan on her,I have also noticed that my mom are not as hungry at first. They are more interested in taking care of their babies.
