The stripes were created by a special device that was fitted to the nozzle end of the tube: a tube within the tube, if you will, about one inch in length and perforated with a ring of small holes around the top.
Toothpaste tubes are normally filled from the flat end, which is then folded over and sealed. In the case of Stripe, a red toothpaste was first filled around the special fitting; the white toothpaste, filled second, held the red toothpaste in place at the top of the tube.
When the tube was squeezed, the white toothpaste would run through the special inner tube, while the pressure of the squeeze simultaneously forced the red toothpaste through the tiny orifices at the end. With the flow of red matched to the flow of white, the toothpaste emerged from the nozzle perfectly striped.

Most of the tube is filled with plain white toothpaste. There's a little chamber at the top that's full of red stuff, and there's a couple of little holes in the nozzle where the red stuff can get into the white. When you squeeze, the red trails stripes over the surface of the white.
Get a pair of scissors and see for yourself.

obviously you have never watched come outside with auntie mabel on cbeebies then you would know that there is a white, red and sometimes a blue tube and they all go into one little tube that you will take home with you. did you know that the stripes do different things aswell, like freshen your breath more and kill more germs. who said telly teaches you nothing! hope this satisfies your little whim.

Yup, it's magical pixies that live in the toothpaste tube.
I think they are related to the tooth fairy, but its definately them that does that stripe thing.
