The fact that this story made the news, suggests that this kind of thing is rare, so don`t assume that everyone in these countries are doing this. There are bad acts happening in all races and religions and countries, try to keep an open mind when seeing these types of stories.

I'm not that familiar with the Quran but I do know that Christians can interpret the Bible in many different ways and it's not hard to find someone that will reinforce your opinion or interpretation of God's word. The same exist in the Muslim world also. You find people that are turned against their fellow person under the name of Religion where others are taught to love and forgive. It is not right but it is accepted and many times no one will question a clerics opinion or interpretation of the Quran.

Mojahid and others have answered your question accurately. It IS culture, not religion, involved here. Culturally, people want to preserve their family name (in Islam, there is no caste system and God will judge us on piety so we can only differentiate between one another on that basis too), or its to maintain familial links (Islam does not say you must marry within your own family, the Prophet PBUH married people from outside his own family and marrying another culture is perfectly acceptable in Islam).
People today are clinging on to the "traditions" of their ancestors; regardless of whether the traditions are right or wrong. The Prophet PBUH taught us a better way to live and there are many Muslim families who follow his PBUH's methods.
Remember, you get good and bad in every "group"- women/good and bad...men/good and bad....post office workers/good and bad...any religion/good and bad. There is never going to be a group of people who you can label as being all good. The "good" category will always have a selection from each group....some good women, some good men, some good post office workers lol, some good christians, some good muslims etc. All good people are not women/christian/muslim etc. Good people come in all shapes and forms

You are right, as a Muslim I can tell you that this kind of pathetic behaviour of forcing your children to marry whom they do not wish to marry is prohibited.
Islam is against forced marriages, though what we see is not religion, but culture. It is culture which is the main reason why these things happen, and this is destroying other peoples view of my religion - Islam.

How is it in other countries their cultural beliefs let them do things that are morally wrong? But in the USA many people do things that would be wrong in other cultures? So how can one judge the other without understanding what they are thinking. Now, I agree that the killings are wrong, but really is there something that can be done?

That is just crazy! Why don't they just worry about whether or not their daughter is happy instead of worrying about him being the "right" or "wrong" man. Plus... who determines who the right or wrong person is for someone? Seriously, it should only concern the 2 people in the relationship together.

It is a corruption of religion where women become property to be bartered or sold. So, when a woman falls in love with the wrong man, she is no longer salable and should be gotten rid of.

i am a Muslim and i jut want to say that the honour killings are not in any way condoned by the Koran. these acts are mostly a cultural thing. so to sum up i would say that it is a disgusting and vicious act and for people to say that it is done in the name of Islam sickens me deeply. we're nice people really

No Qur'an doesnt support this . actually Qur'an even states that girls should never marry who she dont like but that doesnt happen in reality .some families (islamic especially ) forces their doaghters to marry wat the father (most of the time )wants her to marry .this happens due to lack of education , ignorance , & bad habbits way before the islamic period .This picture is decreasing these days fortunately in the islamic countries & is being fought by society .
OF COURSE ITS NOT RIGHT & EVEN NOT JUSTIFIABLE .
