Dragees are a french confection to be used as "decoration only" because, per the FDA, they contain trace amounts of metal (ie: silver). They are, however, considered non toxic. Although people do consume them in some parts of the world, it's recommended you remove them before eating confections.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration considers the metallic-finish dragées to be inedible. Early in the 20th century, the silver finish may have contained mercury (it does not now). The sale of these dragées was banned for some time. Now, these dragées are sold with a notice that they are for decorative purposes only. However in other countries (including the United Kingdom) they are classed as food items.

They're called dragees and come in all sorts of colors. A quick search online will yield many results where you can buy them if you can't find them in grocery stores. I'd also recommend Michael's....they seem to have an aisle dedicated to decorating cakes.

They are called dragees or those little silver balls. The San Francisco Chronicle had an article saying that merchants were afraid to sell them in California because of a lawsuit claiming they were toxic. (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2003/12/23/MNGS03SUEM1.DTL)
PattyCakes seems to sell them over the internet (http://shop.pattycakes.com/sapphire/items.asp?cc=SPRI-SPR&CartId={20D904A1-130F-4F34-85A1-1E70444196C2})

Looks like everyone's calling them dragees.... If it were up to me, I'd visit a local cake decorating shop in your area and see if they have them?
