I'm a guy myself so I am not sure whether this would work the other way.
Explain your feelings to your best friend needs to be the first step. She might not even get mad at you for liking her boyfriend, seeing as you discussed it with her before anything else and proved your friendship comes first. The guy, I am absolutely sure, will respect the fact that you like him as well as the fact that you don't want to lose your best friend.

You are well advised to honer your friendship and keep it friendly only. Never date a friends x or spoil a relationship. You will know the pian if it ever happens to you. The scars last a lifetime. Its not worth it.
